What are the responsibilities and job description for the Servicemembers & Veterans Initiative Investigator position at PAE?

The Investigator will support USAO/EDVA’s Servicemembers and Veterans Initiative by conducting a variety of tasks, including the following:
- Assisting with witness interviews, including drafting reports of interviews.
- Assisting with intake tasks, including witness interviews, searching court databases, requesting court records, conducting research of potential targets of our investigation, and basic legal research.
- Assisting in the drafting of documents, including requests for information from the targets of our investigations and other sources of information.
- Reviewing and assisting with digesting documents produced by the targets of our investigation.
- Researching the ownership of entities that are under investigation.
- Locating witnesses.
- Assisting with the selection of targets for Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (“SCRA”) compliance reviews.
- Reviewing survey results for SCRA compliance reviews.
- Assisting with locating victims of SCRA violations and violations of other statutes that protect servicemembers, veterans, and disabled veterans.
- Assisting with litigation tasks, including assistance with depositions and testifying at trial.
- Assisting with site visits.
- Assisting with compliance review for settlements, including reviewing remedial measures taken by the respondent, compliance reports and interviewing witnesses.
- Supporting our community outreach and engagement efforts.
- Handling sensitive information, including banking records, medical records, and other records containing social security numbers.
- Other tasks that support the Servicemembers and Veterans Initiative.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance
- A bachelor degree or above is required.
- At least three years of previous investigative experience working with civil enforcement matters.
- Candidates must have a passion for enforcing laws such as the SCRA that protect servicemembers.
- Must possess compassion for servicemembers and veterans, as well as disabled veterans.
- Warm and welcoming demeanor to help facilitate the disclosure of sensitive information from witnesses is required.
- Must have the ability to recognize, develop, and present evidence, both orally and in writing, that reconstructs events, sequences, and time elements and establishes relationships, responsibilities, and liability in a manner that meets the requirements of law.
- Must be proficiency user of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Power Point.
- Requires ability to perform research utilizing Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, social media and public information sites. Extensive experience with MS Excel, including creating spreadsheets with pivot tables and formulas.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Candidate must be self-motivated.
Preferred:
- Prior Experience working with Veterans, service members and law enforcement helpful.
- Prior experience and understanding of Military Culture, structure, and life is highly valued.
- Prior Involvement with outreach and community engagements is helpful.
- An advanced degree with a focus on Civil Rights enforcement is helpful.
