Summary of Position:
Reporting to the Director of Packaging, the Packaging Manager is responsible for overseeing the cGMP packaging of prescription and over the counter liquid pharmaceuticals, utilizing a broad knowledge base to direct operational opportunities to a safe, compliant and efficient conclusion at this two-shift, three-plant operation. Packaging lines consist of four unit dose lines, three fluid fill lines and one kitting line.
The Packaging Manager will partner with other functions in our facilities to develop sustainable processes to continually improve our product quality, safety compliance, personnel development and adherence to schedule. To be successful in this position the Packaging Manager must have a leadership style to effectively communicate and collaborate with other departments to ensure adherence to the packaging schedule while complying with all regulatory requirements of this facility. The Packaging Manager must communicate effectively to direct and educate packaging staff not only to perform essential job functions but to define “why” to increase the ability of the packaging staff to become more self-directed.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Continue to develop the skillset and knowledge base of the Packaging team to improve right first-time targets utilizing coaching and mentoring skills, emphasizing adherence to cGMP requirements
- In collaboration with the Director of Packaging, develop and communicate actionable metrics to trend and track KPI’s and provide corrective actions for variations.
- Work closely with the Quality team to decrease planned and unplanned downtime while improving quality KPI’s
- Collaborate with other departments to involve front line personnel in kaizen events to improve processes and cultivate Lean Manufacturing
- Working with the Director of Packaging, evaluate manufacturing costs as detailed by cost accounting and develop strategies to drive costs down
- Promote the continuous improvement culture to align with the overall strategies of the department and the Company
- Proactively work with HR and Training Coordinator to develop new hiring strategies and effective training processes to educate and retain top talent
- Utilizing direct reports, create cross functional training modules to educate Associates to better understand processes and improve decision making skills
- Working closely with EHS, promote safety first and increase the OSHA knowledge base of the front-line Supervisors and Associates
- Build trust in the department with peers through successful collaborative outcomes to process deficiencies and proactive mitigation measures
- Develop Supervisors to efficiently close process deviations with effective outcomes
Required Education, Experience and Skills
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in a related field or 10-15 years in pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated manufacturing environment with 10 of those years in management
- Coupled with the above degree, 5 - 10 years of Management experience in a cGMP environment in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or other regulated manufacturing environment
- Six Sigma and Lean application experience with extensive knowledge of tools and proven positive outcomes
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to recognize effective communication styles
- Must manage shifting priorities in a dynamic operations setting
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to execute corrective measures rapidly
- Must have working knowledge of liquid fill processes including bottle fillers
- Will recognize deviations from OSHA compliance on the operations floor
