Job Title: Phlebotomist
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Duties & Responsibilities
- Verify patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
- Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight and temperature; reporting patient history summary.
- Secure patient information and maintains patient confidentiality
- Counsel patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions
- Schedule appointments; verify times with patients; prepare charts, pre-admission and consent forms.
- Maintain safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
- Arrange daily activities based on urgency of requests for fluid samples
- Identify patients and their personal information using their ID, documents or other means
- Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health etc.
- Reassure patients and help them relax
- Find veins that are suitable for puncture
- Draw blood using sterilized needles, vials and other equipment
- Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples
- Label samples correctly and send or deliver them for testing
- Answer patient questions and provide useful information
- Keep accurate records on fluid specimens and tests
- Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working
- Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
- Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
- The ability to administer injections
- MA or Phlebotomist certification is preferred
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician
- Experience with effective puncture techniques
- Understanding of proper patient identification methods
- Knowledge of legal requirements about drawing blood, handling fluid samples and use of relevant medical equipment and material
- Ability to use computers to enter information
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to connect with patients and make them feel comfortable
- Patience and presence of mind
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- May require prolonged period of standing, walking and bending
- Ability to move/lift up to 20 pounds at times
- Must be able to move/assist with moving patients
Salary: Up to $18.00 per hour (negotiable based on experience)
