Job Description

This Senior Benefits Specialist is responsible for the administration and maintenance of Company employee benefit programs. The job is an advanced-level, contributor position in the Total Rewards department requiring a minimum of five years’ direct experience in benefits administration or equivalent experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

Essential functions

  • Processes Company benefit transactions with accuracy and appropriate timeliness: enrollments, life events, 401(k), life and disability
  • Ensures all benefit plans and transactions are in accord with federal and state compliance provisions
  • Assists Head of Total Rewards in the planning of major Company benefit events, benefit plan design and communications
  • Consults with employees and their dependents on eligibility and coverage for medical, dental, vision, group life, disability, 401(k) and other Company benefits and policies
  • Coordinate with consultants and vendors concerning benefits administration processes and/or employee support 
  • Works with IT and Payroll Departments to establish annual Open Enrollment process, including setup, testing, execution and closing
  • Ensures employee benefit deductions, contributions, accruals and vendor billing are accurate and documented
  • Performs complex analysis of data in order to support benefits compliance requirements, including, but not limited to, 401(k) annual audit, Non-Discrimination Testing, 1095 ACA reporting
  • Provides guidance and assistance to junior benefits team members
  • Abide by Company Business Code of Conduct, standards and procedures.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

Necessary qualifications, skills and abilities

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in employee benefits or related experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • CEBS or CBP certification preferred
  • Working knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA and IRS regulations affecting benefits
  • Previous experience with HRIS systems and reporting
  • Detail-oriented, self-starter and able to work with little supervision while maintaining goals/tasks.
  • Good PC skills to include all MS Office products with extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and be able to communicate effectively
  • Sound reasoning skills and have the ability to follow directions.
