Parkland College is seeking an ASL Interpreter for commencement in May and as-needed thereafter. The Interpreter will interpret oral or sign language, or translate written text from one language into another. The pay rate for this position is $45.00/hour. 

The immediate need for commencement activities represents approximately 7 hours of work.

Essential Job Functions:

• Provides in-class interpretation and transliteration services using sign language communication for deaf and hard of hearing students in college classes and/or laboratories which may require presentation and exchange of highly complex and technical information. Assesses student needs and the interpreting situation before and during assignments and makes adjustments as needed.
  
• Being able to work as part of a team to provide interpreting services to a client.
  
• Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.
  
• Translate messages simultaneously or consecutively into specified languages, orally or by using hand signs, maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible. 
  
• Listen to speakers' statements to determine meanings and to prepare translations, using electronic listening systems as necessary.
  
• Other duties as assigned.
  

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent.
  
• Valid certificate of accredited interpreting training.
  
• Excellent bilingual communication skills, both verbal and written.
  
• Must successfully complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
