Job Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Acting on behalf of the applicable Engineer of Record(s), the Field Review Monitor (FRM) is responsible for visiting the site where the implementation or construction of the Professional Work Product occurs. The FRM will document observations, interpretations, and advice and communicate them to the Technical Management Team, Construction Management Team, and the Engineer of Record(s) as necessary. Typically the FRM will be present when the most critical components of the work are visible and available to be observed.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts Field Reviews to determine if work has been done in accordance with Professional Work Product and may include any of the following:
Construction of roads, bridges, and other associated improvements (curb and gutter, street, sidewalk, landscaping)
Drainage work, traffic control, compliance with SWPPP requirements
Sewer and waterworks removal and installation.
Installation of electrical equipment related to traffic signals, ramp metering, and street lighting
Irrigation and planting, roadway and overhead sign removal and installation.
Installation of temporary and permanent signs and delineation
Maintains office files related to the project
Prepares daily reports and other documentation
Taking project photographs on a daily basis and filing them
Recognizes potential conflicts, issues, and problems, and reports to supervisor with the proposed solution.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
Supervision Received - Engineering Management (all levels); Design Engineer (all levels)
Internal Contacts - All employees on the project
External Contacts - Clients; Suppliers; Subcontractors
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, an associate’s degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field is required.
Professional Registration with APEGA is preferred.
Typically 5 years of related experience on field projects related to earthworks, drainage, wet utilities (Sewer and Waterworks), landscaping, roadways, and pavement.
Experience with overhead signs, traffic signals, ramp metering, and street lighting is an asset.
Some knowledge of public works contracts and formal certificates from independent organizations may be preferred.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications, and construction-related processes related to the area of assignment, and have the potential to perform in a lead capacity. Knowledge of English grammar and composition, the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions, and to prepare written messages and reports. Capability to perform math calculations in order to prepare engineering calculations, graphs, and charts. Proficiency with basic computer usage, extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, and internet search engines (like Google or equivalent) are required. Ability to comply with the multitude of requirements as applicable to the project based on client and industry standards. Must be able to recognize hazardous work conditions and take action if necessary. The ability to use good judgment and work with others is required. Requires ability to climb ladders, inspect work above ground, and work in confined spaces.
