About the Role
As an Engineering Manager at Particle, reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a cross-functional team of software engineers who focus on building tools and revenue-generating products that facilitate access to over 300M Patient Records. This team is called Customer Access, and today they are responsible for our Developer Portal, documentation, as well as our client libraries and SDKs. In addition, the team is responsible for products our customers will use to onboard efficiently, shortening their time to value. It's an opportunity with a mixture of both well-known problem areas and new unproven market opportunities.
Areas of Responsibility
First and foremost, you will be a culture leader, responsible for developing and upholding Particle's values, especially around how we work together: fostering collaboration and inclusivity. Additionally, you will:
- Manage and mentor software and data engineers, while considering their individual career trajectories at Particle and beyond.
- Help Particle grow and evolve as we hire more people into our team by interviewing software engineers and other cross-functional roles.
- Consider and make recommendations about organizational design and how teams evolve, and looking to the future by partnering with senior leaders of the company on ambitious goals and plans.
- Partner closely with your peers, sharing learnings with them, and bringing shared learnings back to your team.
- Increase the efficacy of existing products while bringing new capabilities to market.
- Focus on customers, meeting with and partnering with our Customer Support and Sales teams as well as meeting with our customers, to ensure we're delivering high-leverage solutions to our customers iteratively.
- Use your experience as an Engineer, partnering with your team to uphold a high standard of engineering excellence by writing and reviewing engineering requirements documentation, white-boarding with members of the team, and reviewing their code contributions.
Qualifications
Required
- You have 4 years of experience in software engineering at a SaaS or consumer services product company, with 2 years managing people directly.
- You've led software engineering teams where Software Engineers and Tech Leads have reported directly to you.
- You've built customer-centric products where customer feedback and hard data inform the decisions you and your team make.
- You've worked with modern cloud infrastructure. Particle Health uses Google Cloud Computing (GCP), but experience with any modern provider, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), works for us.
- You keep an eye out for how the industry is changing, technologies and best practices that are shifting and emerging, and hiring trends.
- You value developing the people on your teams as much as you care about developing great software.
Nice-to-Have
- Health Tech experience, especially if you've worked with GCP Cloud Healthcare API or AWS FHIR Works or interoperability standards such as HL7 CDA or the more modern HL7 FHIR.
- Experience building developer tools, especially Software Development Kits (SDKs) that abstract complex interactions with HTTP APIs.
At Particle Health, we believe that creating and nurturing a respectful, equitable, and inclusive culture is the best way to work. We're developing our career pathways, performance evaluation, and employee engagement programs to ensure our employees have what they need to succeed now and in the future.
We're serious about combatting burnout at Particle, and we've instituted anti-burnout policies, including Flexible Fridays and two week-long breaks throughout the year, on top of unlimited PTO and annual holidays.
We offer a complete benefits package, including health/dental/medical coverage for you and your family, 401(k) matching, flexible work schedules and time off, generous paid parental leave with new parent coaching, and more.
