General Overview
Mass General Brigham's Office of General Counsel ("OGC") seeks to hire a transactional lawyer reporting to the Section Head for Litigation, Compliance and Contracts. The lawyer in this position will be part of a team that provides legal support for the contracting, general corporate, and related transactional functions for Mass General Brigham and its affiliated hospitals and other provider and payer organizations.
The OGC team is highly collaborative, collegial, and dedicated to providing the strategic legal advice and guidance necessary to fulfill the system's four-part clinical, research, academic, and community mission. The work is challenging, fast-paced and rewarding, both professionally and personally. Job Responsibilities:
* Review, revise, draft and negotiate contracts
* Maintain and update contracting templates and support clients in the use of templates
* Partner with and provide legal advice and support to diverse groups of clients in Contracting (Supply Chain Management) and other corporate transactional functions relative to agreements, collaborations, and affiliations with vendors, consultants and industry partners
* Ensure that all such agreements and affiliations preserve and protect enterprise intellectual property and tax-exempt status, appropriately address data governance, ownership, use, privacy, and cybersecurity issues, and avoid antitrust and health care fraud and abuse risk
* Help to develop legal strategies and translate them into concise, actionable advice to help clients manage risks and opportunities to achieve business objectives
* Serve on and at times lead teams of in-house and outside counsel and business clients working on mission driven initiatives and transactions
* Work with and cost effectively manage outside counsel representing the organization
* Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for the organization and stay up to date with current developments in areas of responsibility and communicate changes in the law to clients as applicable
* Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Section Head
Qualifications
* JD from an accredited law school, licensed and in good standing before the Massachusetts bar
* A minimum of five years of relevant experience representing clients in transactions in the health care or corporate department of a law firm or in an in-house legal department representing large technology driven organizations, preferably in the health care, life sciences, or biotech industries
* Strong academic credentials with excellent analytical, drafting, interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to think strategically, problem solve creatively and be a savvy partner to clients to help them navigate legal risk to achieve business objectives
* Possesses strong integrity, and the ability to maintain confidences while working with sensitive, confidential information
* Ability to maintain a strong presence in client meetings and meetings with opposing counsel and parties, while representing the organization's interests
* Self-motivated and highly productive with the ability to work independently with strong organizational skills as well as project and time management skills
* Strong team player with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams representing a wide range of entities and departments in a multi-cultural environment
* Demonstrated commitment to principles of equity and inclusion
