PathForward is currently seeking to fill a Register Nurse (RN) position. This role is the perfect fit for a committed healthcare professional looking to make an impactful difference in their community. In this role, you will have the opportunity to help build and grow the extremely impactful Medical Mobile program within PathForward and create/manage new program development in medical outreach. The work at PathForward is fulfilling and meaningful as you’ll see how your efforts directly make a positive difference in the lives of the undomiciled individuals in your community.
This role will support the Director of Medical Respite and Nursing Services, and Arlington County recognized COVID Hero, in providing nursing services to individuals experiencing homelessness in Arlington County, VA. As an integral member of the team, the RN will spearhead new program development for Medical Mobile Outreach and will take the lead in standing up a Mobile Comprehensive Harm Reduction Program. The RN will be a part of a small team of healthcare professionals (Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, LCSW, and Medical Assistant) at PathForward and will provide medical attention to individuals temporarily residing at the Homeless Services Center (HSC) and other Arlington County Based shelters.
Below details a list of main job responsibilities:
- Provide medical services to undomiciled individuals not staying in shelters in Arlington as a member of the PathForward Outreach team through the Medical Mobile Program.
- Implement and maintain the Mobile Comprehensive Harm Reduction Program once it has been approved by Virginia Dept of Health.
- Provide Nursing services at COC shelters through the end of the contract June 30 2023; assess clients by obtaining medical, psychological and social history.
- Assist in case management related to the medical needs of the clients; arranging appointments, advocating for the clients, scheduling specialty referrals, assisting with MEDICAID applications.
- Conduct COVID 19 testing at respective shelter locations, both planned and as needed, testing clients and staff.
- At the NP’s Direction, establish contact with the point of contact at the County Public Health for access to flu and COVID vaccines for shelter vaccine events.
- In NP’s absence, oversee the operation of the Medical Respite Program, which has been recognized on a National Level as one of the recipients of the 2022 Kaiser Permanente Medical Respite Care Grant.
Educations and Skills Qualifications:
- The Registered Nurse must have at a minimum a BSN degree.
- 2 plus years of experience as an RN are required.
- Experience in public health, mental health, substance use, trauma informed care strongly preferred.
- The Registered Nurse must have experience in basic nursing skills of assessment and wound care.
- Experience in case management is a plus.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- The RN must have ability to work well with individuals in crisis, communicate effectively, and have strong organization skills. Patience, consistency, and flexibility is necessary.
- Passion for helping the underserved is a must.
- Ability to provide informed, culturally sensitive care to a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to pivot and make sound decisions is strongly preferred.
- Ability to function autonomously within scope of practice and not shying away from challenges is strongly preferred.
Other:
- Vaccination with at least the original COVID-19 vaccines is required or a religious/medical exemption must be submitted.
- A valid Driver’s license is required.
- An active RN license, either VA or compact state, is required.
- BLS certification is required.
- Must pass background check.
