Super-Sod drivers earn a weekly base salary of $1000plus weekly drop bonuses. Performance and bi-monthly safety bonuses bring the average yearly income of a Super-Sod driver in this market to $64,000 or more!

We are seeking experienced Class A CDL drivers to join our team in Hendersonville, NC. This 1st/DAY SHIFThome EVERY evening opportunity is an always changing route of residential and commercial deliveries to homeowners, contractors/commercial customers, and Super-Sod retail stores. 

Applicants 
MUST have at least 12 FULL months of professional experience operating a Class A tractor-trailer to be considered, NO exceptions. All trucks are automatic Cascadia Freightliner Day Cabs; trailers are 48 ft. flatbeds with Conestoga curtains and a Navigator piggyback forklift for deliveries.

A Super-Sod Driver is expected to work as a valued member of the shipping and receiving operations. This job will primarily consist of local vehicle operations involving positioning and moving trucks and trailers on and between our farms, retail facilities, and commercial/residential properties. 


Essential Functions

  • Operate company-owned and leased trucks over 4 tons to facilitate shipping and receiving operations. 
  • Operate trucks for the delivery, pickup and relocation of farm products and materials. 
  • Perform required before-, during- and after-operation “user maintenance” and provide required reports. 
  • Provide outstanding customer service during delivery and pickup operations. 
  • Operate all MHE or Material Handling Equipment.  
  • Maintain all required certifications required by DOT and OSHA and company safety programs. 
  • Maintain and protect all property in excellent condition. 
  • Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall team operations.

Supervisory Responsibility 
This position requires personal time management and scheduling.  


Work Environment 

The employee will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions and must have suitable clothing. They must have the ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions, not just including extreme weather but enclosed spaces and heights up to 80 feet. The employee will be expected to work around and with machinery that distributes loud noises and exhaust. Personal Protective gear is provided by the employer. This position does require handling and operating of heavy equipment which may introduce a high risk to slips, trips and falls. 


Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  


Company drivers are required to sit and steer for long periods of time while having the ability to coordinate several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while operating a commercial truck. A driver will be expected to operate forklifts used for loading and unloading sod and other farm and retail products. Drivers must be able to get in and out of their trucks multiple times throughout the day as well as on and off forklifts multiple times each day using three point contact. Must have adequate leg, footarm and hand control to climb into cab, operate foot controls and safely navigate vehicle through traffic and weather. 


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Store Manager or Regional Director; though typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday work is required only as job duties demand throughout harvesting season (typically March-September from 7:00 a.m. to 12 p.m.). Weekly hours are extended during these months as well, typically 55-60 hours per week vs 40 in the offseason. Part-time positions are considered and negotiated between the driver and manager. 


Travel 
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and evening travel may be expected. 


Required Education and Experience 

  • 2 years proven experience in commercial truck driving preferred 
  • Clean driving record with no moving violations within previous 3 years 
  • Must possess valid Class A CDL and Medical Card 
  • Must pass background check and drug test 
  • Skilled at driving and parking large, heavy vehicles 
  • Alert, focused, and detail-oriented 
  • Physically and mentally fit 
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time 
  • Possess great physical stamina and focus during long driving shifts 
  • Comfortable with long-haul transport 
  • Able to operate electric lift, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc. 
  • Proficient using GPS and other routing systems 
  • Map reading and route planning experience 
  • An innate sense of direction 
  • Self-starter who works well independently 
  • Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful 
  • High level of composure and good stress management 
  • High school diploma or GED required 
  • Customer service experience required

1) Must meet all Clearinghouse FMCSA drug and alcohol and safety requirements.
2) Must possess valid commercial driver’s license and minimum 12 months of CDL experience to be eligible to drive a company vehicle according to Super-Sod insurance guidelines.
3) DOT Medical Certification required.
4) No major safety and moving violations within the past (3) years. Major violations include:

  • Felony convictions
  • Automobile insurance canceled or not renewed by an insurance company due to excessive tickets, accidents, points or fraud.
  • Convicted of alcohol or drug related offense while driving.
  • Convicted of three or more speeding violations or serious moving violations; moving violations include texting or cell phone violations.
  • Been involved in two or more chargeable accidents.
