Founded in 2010 by a passion for dogs, love of country, and those who have sacrificed so much to protect it, Paws and Stripes is a local non-profit, providing animal assisted therapy and other mental health services to military veterans and their loved ones living with service-connected trauma, saving lives, two at a time.
Since our humble beginnings, Paws and Stripes has provided support services to veterans with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), MST (Military Sexual Trauma), and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury). We rescue shelter dogs to be trained as service dogs and have refined our mental health services to be the heart of our programming. We have grown and evolved beyond service dog training to offer extensive programming to our clients; addressing the impact of military sexual trauma, using psych-education to teach interpersonal skills and coping techniques, we incorporate various therapeutic modalities to aid in healing, and we offer new animal-assisted therapy through programs like our Companion Animal Program (CAP).
Paws and Stripes is a learning organization. We are always making incremental changes for the better and relentlessly pursue continuous improvement and excellence in projects, products, processes, and services. All employees are expected to act with integrity and maintain high ethical standards, be respectful and inclusive of others, display perseverance and resiliency, cooperate and communicate clearly with team members and clients, and to celebrate our authentic and unique strengths. We work with enthusiasm and intellect, are committed to surpassing what has already been achieved, and define success as getting the right things done well.
