PBS is a non-profit media organization that distributes high quality educational, arts, and cultural programming to more than 350 public television member stations nationwide. The Office of the Chief Legal Officer (OCLO) offers law students a rich in-house experience in a variety of legal fields, including non-profit, entertainment, media, communications, intellectual property, regulatory, technology, digital distribution data privacy, public interest, and all aspects of corporate legal matters.Time Commitment: 40/week, May 28, 2024 - August 23, 2024
Undergraduate students receive $15/hour, graduate students receive $17/hour.
This is a hybrid position, which includes 1-2 days per week onsite at PBS's Arlington, VA headquarters.
Key Responsibilities/Projects:
PBS legal interns work closely with our in-house attorneys on current and pressing legal matters. Interns will interact with corporate clients, research and report on various state and federal laws and regulations related to non-profit media entities, and review and draft a variety of documents including commercial agreements, corporate policies, program licenses, software licenses, content acquisition agreements, and intellectual property licenses.
Skill Intern Will Acquire:
Gain exposure to OCLO's diverse in-house legal practice.
Advance legal training through substantive, practical legal work, and constructive feedback.
Build on valuable legal and professional skills in research, drafting, and client communications.
Skills Required
Excellent legal research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
Knowledge of computer-based legal research systems.
Familiarity with, or interest in, the media & entertainment industry including digital media.
Ability to handle complex and challenging assignments with short turnaround deadlines.
Candidate must currently be enrolled in law school.
