Tasting Room Manager
Purpose Statement: To profitably run and manage our tasting room in line with our brand values while improving the working environment for our team members and exceeding our customers’ expectations.
Reports to: President
Compensation and Benefits: Salary based on experience. Health Insurance. Vacation accrues after 1 year employment. Vacation is 2 weeks accrued for years 2 through 5 and 3 weeks after 5 years.
The Tasting Room Manager is a multi-talented individual that will run and manage our tasting room and someone who can be the voice of our winery, the spark that people see when they walk in the door and the glue that holds the sales team together. This is a multi-faceted position that requires initiative, vision, a high energy level, excellent communication and computer skills and positive relationships with management, customers and staff.
- Tasting Room: As a member of the management team, the Tasting Room Manager oversees all tasting room operations, including development, implementation and management of sales and marketing initiatives as well as activities directly related to consumer sales and marketing profitability. Responsibilities include managing tasting room staff and guest experiences to ensure exceptional customer service at all times. The manager will train, mentor and motivate staff to successfully facilitate a seamless and helpful sales experience into every customer interaction which will increase club memberships and build customer and brand loyalty. Manager is responsible for creating the tasting room sales environment including marketing, ambiance, wine presentation and complimentary product selection, sales techniques and customer interaction protocols as well as managing our presence on the internet.
- Special Events: The manager is responsible for coordinating our on-site, VIP and off site events and developing methods to evaluate the success of these events. Works closely with the wine club manager and staff to facilitate seamless customer experiences and environments as drivers for sales and building brand and customer loyalty.
Preferred experience and background: We’re looking for someone who is flexible, smart, hard-working, resourceful, organized, detail oriented, enthusiastic and has high ethical standards. Must be a fast learner who is comfortable multi-tasking in a consistently changing environment and a self-starter who is willing to identify a need and take action. The Tasting Room Manager will possess a positive, can-do attitude and handle direct, concise and at time confidential communications (written and verbal) in a group environment. Essential duties:
- Represent the company and brand, professionally graciously and enthusiastically
- Coordinate with tasting room staff to efficiently manage visitors
- Sell wine and wine club memberships
- Provide the latest information on wines, wine making, winery history and our brand
- Train staff on creating an excellent visitor experience
- Teach staff sales skills and track their sales success
- Teaching staff techniques to successfully sell wine club memberships
- Coordinate vineyard and winery tours
- Oversee scheduling of tasting room staff and delegate necessary daily duties
- Train staff on point of sales systems
- Maintain knowledge of current legal issues pertaining to interstate shipping of wine to consumers and how they impact day-to-day wine shipments
- Facilitate shipping of wine to customers and meet compliance requirements
- Manage the inventory of tasting room wine
- Merchandise the tasting room displays to effectively sell wine and other products
- Possess good written and oral communication skills and strong attention to detail
- Excellent proficiency using MS Word, Excel, Facebook, all internet based information
- Excellent hospitality, sales, organizational and customer service skills
- Demonstrate capability to interface and maintain effective relationships with all level of employees in a team-oriented environment
- Other duties as assigned
Work Schedule:
- 35 – 40 hours per week including weekends and some evenings
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years related experience in hospitality management including retail and people management, wine industry experience preferred
- Wine Industry multi-channel direct-to-consumer, tasting room preferred
- Fluent in English
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time
