Purpose Summary
The Associate Project Manager in Pearson Virtual Schools is an entry level position within our Operational Excellence, Program Management team and will serve as a medium between Program Managers and the rest of the team working on a given project. They participate and manage the evaluation, selection, functional gap analysis, and implementation of total systems or other significant enhancements. This position will work with Program Managers, Directors and others to develop and execute project work plans as well as provide guidance to staff as needed on large, complex and highly visible or unusual projects.
Their role also involves preparing project plans with common tools like Microsoft Smartsheet and Microsoft Word. They identify project risks/issues and carry out studies to identify ways of reducing or solving issues. Associate project managers control project scope by gaining initial alignment with sponsors/stakeholders.
They minimize inconsistency using strict change control processes and documentation and also establish an environment of planned/unplanned collaboration and communication through status reports. They will facilitate regular meetings, following up on tasks/issues, and transferring important information to senior members of the Project team.
The Associate Project Manager delivers projects to successful completion in alignment with strategic and operational goals through planning, coordinating, and managing enterprise resources to achieve desired project outcomes.
The qualities to have to excel in this position include the ability to work under pressure and complete a project before the given deadline, excellent planning and organizational skills, and a keen eye for details.
Core Tasks and Responsibilities
- Understand a project’s scope and create documents for project requirements
- Conduct project meetings to communicate individual roles, project expectations, and ensure that all project team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively
- Monitor projects on a regular basis, evaluating progress and quality, and managing issue resolution process to ensure corrective actions are taken
- Maintain the quality of all project document/data to assure the integrity of a project
- Work with the project/program manager to report analyzed data and communicate results
- Manage the project estimating activities
- Adhere to standardized format guidelines
- Develop additional tools and refine processes to help all projects run effectively
- Coordinate schedule of activities related to the project
- Help to record achievements, expenses, and measures for success
Required Skills, Experience, and Competencies
- College degree, or higher, business related preferred
- 3-5 years of project coordination
- Project Management experience a plus
- Excellent software skills, especially with Microsoft Office
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively both with and without supervision
- Exceptionally detail oriented
- High degree of flexibility

- Works closely with Project/Program team members and the overall Program Manager
Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:
The minimum full-time salary range is between $60,000-65,000
