What are the responsibilities and job description for the Supervising Proposal Writer position at Pearson?
As part of the proposals team, the Supervising Proposal Writer will work closely with Sales and Contract Management (S&CM), Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and other key staff to develop and deliver high-quality, compelling proposals. While the Supervising Proposal Writer’s primary responsibilities will be focused on text creation, revision, and maintenance, they will contribute throughout the entire proposal process, from proposal pre-work to proposal creation and delivery to limited post-submission support. The Supervising Proposal Writer will manage the team of Proposal Writers, overseeing the team’s daily writing responsibilities, as well as boilerplate text creation, revision, and maintenance.
Writer Responsibilities
- Work with assigned Proposal Analyst and SMEs to identify and collect relevant text
- Read the RFP and related documents in detail, including materials provided by the S&CM lead on win themes, strategies, and differentiators
- Meet with the Proposal Analyst to coordinate responsibilities for the proposal, including the following:
- Mini style guide
- Proposal calendar
- Text shells
- Forms
- Staffing
- Attend proposal kick-off meeting and status meetings
- Schedule and facilitate text review meetings with involved functional groups
- Populate and/or customize proposal text owned by the proposals team as needed for each proposal
- Review text from SMEs for adherence to style guide; provide feedback and suggested edits
- Keep track of requirement gaps and outstanding text deliverables
- With Proposal Analyst, lead “one copy” and/or page turn reviews
- Complete final editing/formatting of text
- Support proposal production tasks, as needed
- Support BAFO requests, as applicable
Supervising Responsibilities
- Function as line manager for all proposal writers
- Guide and oversee the continuous improvement of proposal boilerplate text
- Lead training activities for new writers on text-related processes and boilerplate
- Support updates to and maintenance of training materials for all proposal team roles
Qualifications
- BA or BS, preferably in English, Journalism, or similar degree
- Minimum two years in proposal writing or other relevant writing areas
- Experience in education or assessment industry preferred
- Expert proficiency with Microsoft 0365
- Experience leading a team or directly managing staff

- Able to work independently while remaining committed and responsive to the team
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Exceptional project management, planning, and time management skills
- Assertive yet diplomatic communication style

As required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act, Pearson provides a reasonable range of minimum compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the state of Colorado only , the range of starting pay for this role is $80,000 - $84,000. This position is eligible to participate in an annual incentive program, and information on benefits offered is here.
