What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graphic Artist position at Pen & Inc.?
Under the direction and reporting to the Art Director, the Graphic Artist is responsible for preparing, adjusting and managing electronic art files (via P&I graphics workflow) to bring them into print production specification.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review incoming graphic production files (preflight) to make sure they meet all necessary criteria prior to producing final art.
- Develop layouts and make corrections to customer supplied art, set type, simplify vector art, color separation of elements, add all printers’ specs and check against customer supplied files.
- Line Extensions.
- Modify photos based on printer profiles (clipping paths, scaling, cropping, retouching, etc.).
- Revise and update existing art files based on customer requests.
- Produce and verify printable bar codes.
- Output laser, inkjet proofs and press accurate proofs.
- Concept development and package design.
- Exercise good judgment/decision making based upon customer requirements and the prepress, plate making and printing process.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat.
- Solid computer skills and working knowledge of MAC OS.
- Understanding of file/asset organization (Fonts, links, embedded images, etc.).
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to multi-task and work well under tight deadlines.
- 3D Experience a plus, but not required.
- Some knowledge of trapping, distortion, step and repeat a plus, but not required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- 2-Year Associates Degree / 4-Year Bachelors Degree in Graphic Arts Program, AND/OR
- 2 - 3 Years experience as a Graphic Designer or Production Artist
