Position Summary:
Penn Foster is the largest and most comprehensive education platform provider in the middle skills labor market. We are seeking an experienced Commercial Operations Manager to help drive double-digit growth in our key Enterprise Solutions division through sales strategy and performance improvement initiatives. This role will serve as the “right hand” of the data driven divisional executive and will be responsible for designing and delivering on the core operational and analytical processes that enhance the effectiveness of the division.
Essential Job Functions:
- Salesforce.com Administration: Ensure we are strategically steering the commercial engine of the Enterprise Solutions division on a day-to-day basis through strong, well-defined utilization of our CRM platform. Identify areas for improvement in data structures and visualizations/ dashboards that drive strong commercial outcomes.
- Strategic Guidance for Sales/ Account Management Teams: Build consultative relationships with our sales force and account management teams to help bring your analytical and strategic skills to their day-to-day routines. Use your influence and persuasion skills to make them more effective at their jobs.
- Generating and Driving Improvement Initiatives: Spearhead the identification/ shaping of targeted initiatives that improve the functioning of the business and/or the performance of the team. Combine your creativity, customer-centricity, and analytical skills to make the business work better.
- Process Definition and Business Systems Design: Observe, monitor, and structure key business and operational processes that take place across the business unit. Identify areas for improvement that reduce friction and/or drive greater commercial outcomes.
- Financial Reporting and Analytical Support: Drive periodic reporting on the health of the business, in close coordination with finance teams. Identify and extract key insights from that reporting that focus executive attention on the biggest needle-moving opportunities. Provide targeted analytical support to executive team and front-line client-facing team.
- Incentive Compensation Design and Administration: Administer the incentive compensation programs for our commercial-facing teams, in close coordination with finance teams. Review the structure of the plan annually to recommend any changes needed to better align incentives and drive improved performance.
- Strategic Planning for Executive Team: Serve as key thought partner for the executive team, on topics ranging from sales coverage model to territory assignments to pricing policy to new market entry plans. While the role has substantive operating responsibilities (listed above), there is the expectation that the individual serve as a strategic partner in handling the periodically arising key decisions that will shape the overall performance of the division.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- 5 years of strong analytical and problem-solving experience working in sales operations, finance, consulting, or other similar analytical role.
- Track record as a self-starter with a history of rolling up sleeves and proactively “getting stuff done” in an org.
- Fluency with financial concepts and sales analytical techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of Salesforce.com (or prior exposure to Salesforce.com and proven ability to learn quickly).
- Proven ability to work and interact in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail while multi-tasking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Knowledge of visual analysis applications and sales intelligence software (preferably Tableau).
- Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL queries (preferred).
