Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Cyber Security Department Manager to support our NASA customer at Goddard Space Flight Center, located in Greenbelt, MD or White Sands Complex, Las Cruces, NM, for the Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) Program. This position will be primarily locally remote, with some travel to the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and other NASA locations as needed, and will require a person who is within a commutable distance locally.
As prime contractor on the SENSE contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment and systems engineering of NASA’s worldwide satellite communication networks.
As the Cyber Security Department Manager, you will lead our IT Security organization for NASA SENSE, providing leadership in a unique mission-based IT environment, which includes a mix of traditional Information Technology (IT), Operational Technology (OT), and oversight of Cybersecurity teams who maintain compliance with Federal Cybersecurity mandates, and protect key components of the US national space infrastructure. In this position, you will interface with senior Program Management, our NASA customer, vendors, and internal Engineering teams, to play an active role in maintaining and securing existing IT/OT environments, while participating in planning for future state of the same environments. You will work in a dynamic, team-based development environment. Although this position will have a specific emphasis on IT Cybersecurity management, it will also include ITSM as it relates to security (including network engineering, system administration, monitoring and alerting), and oversight of facility security.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of IT Security professionals responsible for the overall cybersecurity posture of the program and its IT and OT assets, as well as compliance with customer and Federal security mandates and reporting requirements
- Develop and grow existing and new team members to foster collaboration, career development, and a culture of ownership and accountability in ITSM/Cybersecurity Excellence.
- Manage and improve individual mission and cross-collaborative approaches across the contract Program.
- Maintain a mature IT Cybersecurity practice across the program which includes:
- Maintaining a proactive IT Security environment and culture.
- Reviewing, planning, and preparing Assessment and Authorization processes for program projects with Information System Security Officers (ISSO).
- Facilitating annual system reviews, including internal and 3rd party Control Assessments.
- Providing guidance, monitoring, and reporting on the program Plan of Action and Milestone (POAM) closure and reporting process.
- Identifying and implementing IT Security infrastructure tools, use-cases, and system designs to reflect trending global events and cyber security vulnerabilities.
- Ensuring compliance with NASA IT Security policy and procedures.
- Interfacing with NASA IT Security personnel, including Security Control Assessors.
- Leading forensic reviews for IT Security incidents and report up to program management.
- Reviewing and guide updates to program Security Plans and artifact deliverables.
- Provide workforce education and mentoring to maintain the IT Security, and workplace Security culture across program.
- Serve as the Designated Representative for the Deputy IT & Cyber Security Department Manager in their absence.
- Any other tasks, as assigned, by the Deputy IT & Cyber Security Department Manager.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related technical discipline, and 10 years of directly related technical experience, or a MS degree and 8 years of experience; inn lieu of a degree, 14 years of experience may be considered.
- 7 years of supervisory and management experience in a datacenter or enterprise ITSM environment
- Understanding and experience with NIST 800-53 and DISA STIG requirements and their applicability to implementation and operation of US Federal IT/OT system.
- Experience with Windows and Linux Systems, IT and Networking Infrastructure
- Familiarity with ATO in the context of Federal IT/OT systems.
- Experience with writing IT Security and/or IT Systems process and plan documentation
- Experience in developing long range capital investment and technology roadmap plans to lead enterprise organizations in ongoing development of their IT/OT infrastructure.
- IT Project management and/or team supervisory experience
- Operational Technology Cybersecurity background/experience
- Ability to travel up to 20% to NASA locations locally and nationally
- This position requires an active Secret clearance, which requires a US Citizen
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience working in the NASA IT/OT environment
- Previous experience with any Federal Agency ITSM operations and IT leaderships
- Experience with concepts related to FedRAMP, and other authorization/certification and endorsements for systems operating in the Federal space
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate teams in a complex environment
- Experience in identifying and implementing process improvements efficiencies
- Ability to multitask effectively between program projects, subcontractor personnel, and project civil servant community
- Good communication skills - able to run meetings with project teams and coordinate with technical and non-technical staff
- Excellent teamwork, collaboration, and proactive interactions

Target Salary Range
