Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to manage EHS activities at the NASA Goddard space Flight Center ( GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD, as part of the Mission Assurance (MA) effort to support systems development and operations of NASA communications networks. This position will allow for some telework but will require a local person for on site work as necessary.
Peraton’s Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract with NASA provides communications support for existing and upcoming science and human exploration missions and provides an opportunity to work on advanced space to ground communications.
As EHS Manager, you will report to the SENSE Mission Assurance Manager and implement a system safety approach in which development, testing, flight support, ground operations, and maintenance activities are assessed for hazards. This system safety approach includes the institution of management processes for assuring personnel and property will be protected from injury or harm as a result of exposure to these hazards. You will also ensure that all workplace hazards are thoroughly identified, analyzed, and mitigated to the lowest possible level.
Your responsibilities will include the following:
- Plan and implement an industrial safety and environmental program meeting contract requirements
- Oversee and conduct EHS audits
- Develop and provide contract-specific safety and environmental training, educational, and awareness materials
- Evaluate work processes for hazardous situations
- Perform environmental and human engineering assessments and implement remedial actions
- Prepare reports and perform root cause analysis of mishaps and close calls
- Maintain emergency preparedness and continuity of operations plans and coordinate emergency drills and exercises.
- Remotely manage a small team of EHS professionals responsible for implementing EHS programs across several NASA locations, with occasional travel to those locations
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in safety, engineering, science, or related technical field and 8 - 10 years of related professional experience, or an MS and 6 - 8 years
- 5 years in a Project Management role with supervisory experience
- 5 years of experience managing hazardous waste and other environmental programs
- 5 years of experience leading teams to the resolution of ambiguities and development of achievable plans to solve problems
- Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS) or similar
- Experience implementing an EHS Management System (e.g., ANSI Z10, OHSAS 18001, ISO14001)
- Knowledge and ability to ensure compliance with NASA and industry consensus standards
- Training and certification of one or more of: non-ionizing radiation (laser and radio-frequency safety); fall protection/working from heights; lifting plans; industrial safety; environmental compliance
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical and chemical agents
- Security clearance - this position requires ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience implementing or improving measurement capability
- Experience redesigning processes to achieve greater safety, productivity, decision-making or enhanced customer service
- High-energy strategic thinking with demonstrated ability to operate and communicate at both a strategic and a hands-on level as needed
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy while understanding broader technical issues
- Excellent organizational skills such as prioritizing and completing multiple tasks within critical deadlines, as well as verbal and written communication skills
- An active Secret clearance

Salary Range
Salary Minimum: $57,500 Salary Mid: $115,000 Salary Maximum: $143,800 The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position, and is just one component of Peraton's total compensation package for employees.
