Performance Team and Damco Distribution, now part of the Maersk global organization under a combined Warehousing & Distribution division, offer third party logistics services to over 500 customers. Encompassing almost 15 million square feet of warehousing capacity throughout the country and a large transportation segment capturing a variety of services, we have key supply chain hubs in the Los Angeles and New Jersey/New York areas, and other facilities along the Western & Eastern coasts along with multiple locations in the Midwest. Delivering significant sales and profitability growth, we will drive the Inland Logistics and Services business for the combined US business units for Maersk.
Summary:
The Yard Management Specialist reports directly to the Head of Depot and is responsible for planning of the daily operation, safety, housekeeping and security of the depot yard. Must properly and timely report equipment inventory on yard to internal and external parties. Ensure accurate and timely updates in required systems (SD1).
This posiiton will take place out of Elwood, IL 60421.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with operations leadership to maintain proper levels of CHE inventory.
- Strategic planning of yard operations.
- Ensure yard layout and housekeeping are maintained per company expectations.
- Ensure system operating parameters are met and down time less than 1% of operating hours.
- Maintain operational relationships with customers, trucking and rail operators.
- Schedule and oversee Maintenance & Repair of all container handling equipment.
- Monitor, record and report cost savings, unbudgeted expenses, service failures and service opportunities to depot manager, along with suitable recommendations.
- Monitor containers, yard and gate activity and provide support to resolve issues as necessary.
- Maintain a positive relationship while working closely with the staff to build a strong team through coaching, goal setting, and constructive feedback.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent – Bachelor Degree preferred
- Ability to multi-task and problem solve
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word and other related programs)
- Must be an aggressive self-starter
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Team player attitude
