What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Scientific and Operational Initiatives position at Pfizer?
ROLE SUMMARY
You will work as part of a talented team to contribute to the development of scientific strategy and support the implementation of high priority projects (e.g., new technology platforms, new ways of accessing external innovation) for Pfizer's Worldwide Research, Development and Medical (WRDM) organization. You will leverage your past experience working on R&D strategic/operational projects to drive certain workstreams as part of complex cross-functional projects supporting the Senior Director and/or lead certain projects with the guidance of the Senior Director.
You will be working directly with subject matter experts within Research Units/Partner Lines in WRDM as well as partnering with counterparts in other divisions within Pfizer (e.g., Business Innovation, Global Product Development).
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Being part of a team to support the Senior Director and other leadership to deliver complex cross-functional projects. Scope of work includes:
- Drive high priority scientific planning and operational initiatives across Pfizer therapeutic areas and technology platforms, e.g., mRNA, artificial intelligence/machine learning
- Example project: developing components of the strategic vision for mRNA technology at Pfizer and working cross-functionally with key stakeholders, such as Business Development, to enable decision-making on critical topics and ensure successful execution of the strategy.
- Deliver and contribute to key aspects of the Corporate Strategic Plan
- Maximize the effectiveness of the President of WRDM on key internal and external deliverables
- Identifying and prioritizing opportunities for key decision makers to make strategic decisions to deliver innovative medicines across Pfizer's portfolio and advancing these priorities in collaboration with Pfizer's Chief Scientific Officers and other WRDM leaders
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD or MD in a scientific or medical related field
- 3-7 years of strategic planning experience in a top-tier management consulting firm or in-house strategy team in a biopharmaceutical company
- Strong knowledge of the biopharmaceutical industry
- Experience synthesizing and communicating complex information and delivering impactful recommendations to senior stakeholders
- Experience leading complex strategic projects to drive organizational change while balancing potential impacts on the R&D pipeline, financials, and strategic position.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders in a matrixed environment
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
