Pharmacists Mutual Insurance has an opening for an Accountant I or II. This role will perform routine accounting functions along with financial and tax reporting duties within the finance department.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:

Accountant I
- Performs accounting functions in the areas of investment transaction processing, bank reconciliation, account balancing, general journal entry, subsidiary financial statement preparation, regulatory and management reporting, investment accounting and reporting, and state and municipal premium tax return preparation.
- Responsible for accounting functions in the areas of account balancing and reconciliation, investment accounting and reporting, parent and subsidiary financial statement preparation, quarterly and annual statement preparation, regulatory and management reporting, and premium tax and federal/state income tax return preparation.
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Processes investment receipts, purchases and sales.
- Reconciles bank statements to general ledger.
- Records monthly general ledger entries and correcting/adjusting entries as required.
- Prepares monthly financial statements.
- Prepares quarterly and annual statement reports for regulators.
- Completes and files regulatory and management reports as requested.
- Provides requested documentation to actuaries and auditors.
- Completes and files state and municipal premium tax returns as required.
- Completes and files federal and state income tax returns as required.
- Thorough knowledge of general accounting principles and practices and knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles.
- Knowledge of processes and procedures related to accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of accounting rules and regulations and the policies and procedures of the finance department.
- Reviews financial documents for completeness and accuracy.
- Performs detail work requiring a high degree of accuracy.
- Makes computations and prepares data summaries.
- Analyzes issues from the perspective of the accounting profession.
- Analyzes complex issues and makes critical decisions.
- Interprets, applies and explains applicable laws, codes and regulations.

- High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience; or
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent and 3 years of related experience; or
- Bachelor’s Degree
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 years of related experience; or
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent and 5 years of related experience; or
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years of related experience; or
- Master’s Degree
- Professional accounting designation or high-level insurance designation (CPA, CIA, CMA, CPCU, AIAF or equivalent)
