What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technology Specialist I position at Philomath SD 17J?
The Technology Specialist I role is to provide support of the end user technologies and enterprise systems of the Philomath School District 17J, facilitating the District’s vision. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment to ensure optimal workstation performance. The Specialist will also troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via e-mail) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance where required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform onsite analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex desktop and mobile device problems for end users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions, including offsite repair for remote users as needed.
- Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end-user workstations and related hardware and software in order to deliver required desktop and mobile device service levels.
- Assess the need for and implement performance upgrades to hardware.
- Collaborate with network administrators to ensure efficient operation of the company’s desktop computing environment.
- Where required, administer and resolve issues with associated end-user workstation networking software products.
- Receive and respond to incoming calls, trouble tickets, and/or e-mails regarding desktop problems.
- Ensure that physical desktop connections are in proper working order.
- Prepare tests and applications for monitoring desktop and mobile device performance and then provide performance statistics and reports.
- Assist in preparing, maintaining, and upholding procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring desktop operations.
- Research, analyze, and recommend appropriate end user technology configurations as assigned by supervisors.
- Develop and maintain an inventory of all monitors, keyboards, hard drives, mobile devices, modems, network cards, and other components and equipment.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent technical knowledge of desktop and mobile hardware
- Hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience
- Working technical knowledge of current protocols, operating systems, and standards, including window and OSX
- Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories
- Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM
- Qualify for a public bond
Must complete a Fingerprint-Based Criminal History Background Check Verification
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language

- Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job

- High school education, some college preferred
- Must be able to meet the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for Teachers and school Staff.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately document instances of desktop or mobile device equipment or component failure, repair, installation, and removal.
- If necessary, liaise with third-party support and equipment vendors.
- Review, prioritize, and process work order reports; document the progress of projects; complete assignments to exceed customer expectations.
General Performance Requirements:
- Observe laws, district policies and procedures and professional standards for the position.
- Complete a Criminal History Background check
- Perform duties in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with school personnel, working collaboratively as a team member.
- Carry out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions and new or emergency conditions.
Contract: 8 hours per day, 12 months/year. $18.83-$25.51 per hour depending on experience, benefits per the Classified negotiated agreement.
