A PHS Conservation Educator will conduct various events on PHS property such as tours, field trips, day camps, birthday parties, and offsite events such as booths, demonstrations and more. This position works under the direction of the Education Administrator and works directly with other Conservation Educators and the Animal Care staff. This position is responsible for educating the public about reptiles conservation and how to co-exist with the wildlife that lives around us.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of reptiles, both native and exotic, and their husbandry requirements (although more extensive information will be given during trainings)
  • Ability to teach existing curricula in an effective, fun, hands-on manner.
  • Desire to learn more about all reptiles and their husbandry requirements.
  • Proficient in basic word processing, record keeping, and general database management.
  • Ability (or desire to learn) to design marketing materials in graphic software.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
  • Ability to make decisions thoughtfully, but quickly when necessary
  • Willing to be finger printed by local vendor
  • Consistent attendance in order to fulfill scheduled programs for our customers
  • Professional presence that instills confidence in the curriculum being taught

Description of Working Conditions:

Most of the duties within this position will be carried out at the PHS facility in north Scottsdale, Arizona (60%). Some events or requirements may be off-site (approximately 40%). This position may require some evenings and weekend commitments in addition to their typical duties and responsibilities. Opening and closing tasks pertaining to the facility will also be required.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $14.50 - $17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
