What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Recovery Support Specialist-Alternative Peer Group (APG) position at Phoenix Recovery Academy?
The Peer Recovery Support Specialist’s role is to support others in recovery from a substance use disorder. The Specialist will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Recovery Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
- Maintain project logs, report, and records in the appropriate file/database
- Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance
- Assist/coach recovering persons develop their own plan for advancing their recovery
- Actively identify and support links to community resources that support client’s goals/interest
- Maintain contact by phone and/or email with recovering person and their families after they leave the program to ensure their ongoing success and to provide support in partnership with other agencies
- Develop, implement, and promote ongoing community engagement/training opportunities
- Ensure facilities are well organized, cleaned, and maintained each day
- Meet with Peers on a regular schedule and facilitate a Recovery Wellness plan as necessary.
