POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Bakery Clerk
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Bakery Manager

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
To provide wrapping, stocking and customer service support for the Bakery
Department.
NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is to consistently service customers and to prepare and
display product to ensure maximum sales and product availability. Primary learning
challenge is product knowledge, sequence of work flow, and production speed. This
position requires ongoing social skills/verbal interaction, reading, standing, walking,
moderate lifting, and operation of finishing and wrapping equipment. Position functions
and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction
are provided by the Bakery Manager, Bakery Merchandiser or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
1. Provides friendly and efficient customer service by demonstrating sincerity,
patience and respect in all customer interactions.
2. Throughout the store, greets customers in a genuine and friendly manner. Learns
customer names and uses them respectfully in greetings.
3. Assists customers throughout the store by:
· Escorting them to products they are looking for
· Loading or unloading heavy items and assisting with products that are out
of reach
· Offering product and/or recipe suggestions and recommendations
· Responding to customers’ questions and requests in a timely manner
· Treating them as the most important people in the store
4. Sincerely thanks customers for their business and choosing our store.
5. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant working
and shopping environment.
6. Finishes bakery product
· Allows baked goods to cool and glazes/drizzles appropriate product
· Cleans department and maintains conditions in the back room
7. Wraps bakery product
· Slices and bags bread and buns
· Transfers product to trays or containers
· Shrink wraps when appropriate
· Labels all wrapped product

8. Stocks, rotates and faces bakery product
· Pulls stales and writes down product, quantity and retail
· Prepares sales area by cleaning cases and bins
· Stocks shelves, bins and cases, checks price and verifies sign and product
price
9. Assists customers with questions and requests
· Attends to customer needs for ordering, information and counter service
· Greets customers in department and offers suggestive selling
· Answers department calls
Functional Requirements
Frequent:
Physical - lifting/carrying 20 to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling 100 to150 lbs., equipment
operation (glazer, cleaning utensils, oven racks, flats, shrink wrap, label machine,
bread slicer, knives, decorating tube, calculator, telephone), reaching, standing,
turning, bending, repetitive motions (twisting and clipping bags, labeling,
wrapping shrink wrapped items), walking on uneven ground
Mental - judgment/decision making, memorization, reading, math,
writing, social skills/verbal interaction
Environmental – works close to heated surfaces
Occasional:
Physical - lifting/carrying over 40 lbs., pushing/pulling 100 to 550 lbs., climbing
ladders, equipment operation (shopping cart, cleaning utensils), stooping,
crawling
10. Follows all store and department policies and procedures
11. Assists in maintaining proper signage and decorations
12. Performs shop back duties
13. Education and/or Experience
-High school education (or concurrent enrollment in an educational institution)
preferred but not required
