WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
- Associate’s Degree in Design/Drafting or equivalent experience
- Design experience in automotive powertrain products
- 3 years of Catia design experience (high proficiency in 3D modeling and detailing).
- Familiarity with Industry Standards related to Detailed Drawing Requirements, ANSI, ISO, etc.
- Knowledgeable in designing of castings, stampings and turned components
- Advanced GD&T knowledge (it’s understanding and usage) in order to properly apply the rules to drawings
- Perform stack-up calculations to component and sub assembly tolerances to ensure fit and function
- Efficient in writing, communication and ability to manage technical details
- TeamCenter data management experience
- Knowledge in data transfer techniques
- Knowledge in DFM methods to simplify assembly efforts
- Proficient with Microsoft office products - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Willingness to travel as needed and to work abroad for training purposes
- Review and analyze specs, sketches, drawings, ideas and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
- Develop and maintain 3D models and drawings of automotive powertrain components, sub-assemblies and modules, using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
- Support in the design of testing and prototype fixtures, if necessary
- Perform package studies given customer engineering requirements and engine environment details
- Follow internal procedures and standards including customer rules and drafting guidelines
- Create drawings/tolerance stack-up analysis/exploded views/models from supplied information such as sketches, marked prints, catalog references, layouts and other information supplied by Product Engineers.
- Design components from a variety of different manufacturing processes; castings, forgings, stampings, powdered metal, machine turned components, molded plastics
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to drawings.
- Generate drawings in accordance with industry design standards; ANSI, ISO, etc.
- Maintain drawings and models within SmartTeam database
- Preparing for and participating in design reviews with the Engineering Team
- Participate in supplier and customer meetings to understand and implement needs from all sides still assuring functionality/feasibility/cost
- Coordinates and chairs necessary job/task clarification meetings with local team members as necessary
- Apply Design for Manufacturing principles to simplify manufacturing functions
- Keep track of lessons learned to share with other designers/engineering team
- Must complete assigned tasks within the established project timelines.
