WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
POSITION SUMMARY
A Material Planner is responsible for ensuring that the right materials are available at the right time in the right quantity. They work closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement effective material planning strategies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Raw Material Planning:
- Assist other material planners with problem components.
- Concentrate on “C” level rated suppliers
- Determine the required materials and orders by providing scheduling releases.
- Set and maintain master data for components.
- Optimize MRP parameters.
- Ensure the consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary for production.
- Ensure on-time deliveries and quantity with suppliers.
- Coordinate with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, supplier payments, etc.
- Track production volume and monitor customer demand patterns and purchasing trends.
- Schedule and oversee the supply and delivery of materials and products.
- Manage inventory issues, schedule changes, and cancellations.
- Prepare cost estimates and performance reports.
- Steer change management of components (ramp up and phase out).
- Monitor logistics performance at suppliers.
- Optimize inventory level.
- Manage logistic claims and chargebacks towards vendors.
- Contribute to KPI targets such as loss rate, inventory level, supplier backlogs, and safety stock.
- Check backlogs regularly and escalate them with suppliers or purchasing.
- Lead escalation calls with suppliers, including meeting minutes.
- Work with transport carriers (ocean FCL/LCL, air, trucking).
Customer Requirements Planning:
- Communicating variances and changes with customer representatives and production planner
- Support OTD delivery goals.
SAP Maintenance:
- Setting up new suppliers and material data in SAP
- Setting up new planning data in SAP
- Maintenance and review of SAP master data as related to Logistics
Miscellaneous and Other Duties:
- Scheduling trials with production
- Support reconciliation of inventory discrepancies
- Assisting in the management of inventory physical counts
- Monitor transport portals
- Support requirements to process supplier returns
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS YOU SHOULD HAVE
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
- Five years’ experience: working knowledge of materials requirements planning, knowledge of customer requirements planning and master scheduling, preferred.
- SAP experience preferred.
- Experience with Customer Websites and Portals including Ford, GM, and Chrysler preferred.
