How to be Successful in the Role: 
 
Bring your experience, collaboration skills and understanding of civil engineering principles and practices of civil engineering related to surface water management, road improvements, water quality, habitat and fish passage projects.  Be ready to apply your abilities to help multidisciplinary team’s scope, design, and construct a variety of surface water projects.  A person in this position routinely collaborates with a variety of stakeholders.  Therefore, a person must have strong verbal and writing skills in order to be successful in this position. To be successful in this role familiarity with Washington State Department of Transportation specifications for Roads, Bridge and Municipal construction is a must.  Skills in project management processes, methods and principals are critical for this position, as well as strong time management skills and the ability to support multiple concurrent project teams.   The Surface Water Management team is composed of skilled professional committed to provide guidance to new team member to be successful.  
 
Essential Responsibilities
 
Skills Immediately Required:  
  • Understanding of principles and practices of civil engineering related to surface water management, road improvements, water quality, habitat and fish passage projects.
  • Familiarity with Washington State Department of Transportation Specifications for Roads, Bridge, and municipal construction.
  • Skills in Project management processes, methods, and principals.
  • Strong time management and people skills along with an ability to support multiple concurrent project teams
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing regarding complex engineering problems and technical data.
Core Daily Responsibilities:
 
  • Perform daily duties as a Project Manager to oversee the development of multiple capital improvement. projects.
  • Preparing construction contract documents in preparation for public bidding, evaluating project bids, and providing construction administration.
  • Oversee the preparation, management, and coordination of consultant contract documents for professional engineering design services.
  • Preparation of grant applications and supporting documentations for funding.
  • Coordination with other County departments and outside agencies or municipalities to develop planning and design efforts for capital improvement projects.  
  • Working with a diverse group of professionals including environmental permitting staff, right-of-way agents, grant accountants, engineering technicians, and planning staff.

Recruiting Requirements:
 
Three years of progressively responsible experience related to the position AND either a four-year degree in a closely related field or substituting for the degree be registered as an EIT or an additional 4 years of directly related work which demonstrate the ability to perform the essential responsibilities.

Desired Qualification:  Possession of Professional Engineering License (PE) is desirable.

  • Requires satisfactory physical condition, as evidenced by a County-approved physical examination, may be required prior to appointment to the position.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Washington State Driver's license
  • Successful completion of a Pierce County background investigation.
