As an Outreach Worker under the supervision of the Program Supervisor, you will collaborate closely with Area School District personnel and/or attendance team(s). Your role involves providing in-home truancy intervention services using a strengths-based, solution-focused approach. You’ll engage fully with students and their families, identifying and documenting their strengths, needs, and truancy risk factors. Additionally, you’ll offer case management, psycho-educational parenting skills, and necessary support. When needed, you’ll arrange referrals to community services and resources.

Furthermore, as part of this position, you’ll coordinate vacation schedules with your supervisor during the school calendar’s winter and summer breaks."

WHAT You'll do as an Outreach Worker:

As an Outreach Worker, your role involves close collaboration with personnel from identified schools and districts. You may even take part in developing, facilitating, and convening an attendance team that includes school staff, Office of Children and Youth Services (OCYS) personnel, and other relevant team members. Regular participation in attendance team meetings is essential.

Your primary tasks include:

1. Assessment and Intervention:

  • Meet with students and their families to conduct assessments addressing absenteeism and truancy concerns.
  • Develop attendance intervention plans.
  • Engage families in the planning process for each student.
  • Act as an advocate, ensuring effective communication between the student, family, and school personnel. You’ll also facilitate access to community services and supports.

2. Collaboration and Liaison:

  • Work cooperatively with staff from referring schools and OCYS.
  • Participate in educational planning to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Agency, schools, OCYS, and community resources that benefit students. Regularly report progress.

3. Record Keeping and Administration:

  • Maintain accurate agency records for students, adhering to agency standards.
  • Timely recording of all relevant contacts related to the student.

4. Outcomes and Communication:

  • Administer outcomes tools according to program protocols.
  • Submit outcomes data to the outcomes administrator within specified timeframes.
  • Maintain regular communication with your program supervisor, keeping them informed of program activities and developments. Report any concerns promptly.

5. Transportation and On-Call Duties:

  • Provide transportation for students and their families to and from appointments (e.g., school meetings, magistrate hearings) when necessary.
  • Fulfill on-call duties as assigned.

1. Minimum Requirements:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Be willing to work in clients’ homes and engage with the community.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of family dynamics and child development, with preferred truancy intervention experience.
  • Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Experience in providing family support services is required.
  • Familiarity with schools and related systems is a plus.
  • Show sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic differences within the Agency’s defined service population.
  • Adhere strictly to the Code of Ethics established by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
  • Maintain an excellent driving record, possess a reliable car, and carry proper liability insurance for your vehicle.
