Position Summary:
The Laboratory Manager is to assist the Director of the Laboratory Services in duties related to all regulatory requirements; monthly QC review and documentation, Calibration Verifications for all test systems, including ABG testing, review and documentation of all monthly maintenance and worksheets, reviewing and entering Proficiency Testing results for the Director to approve. Maintaining the COLA requirements for biennial inspections. The Laboratory Manager is also responsible to assist the Director with LIS maintenance including interface errors, writing tests into the LIS and EMR dictionary, resolving Reference Lab Match Queue errors, database reporting from the LIS based on pre-determined parameters as requested by PMC Management or as needed for department operations.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situation.
- Competency Assessments of all laboratory staff to ensure proficiency.
- Update and adherence to the laboratory safety policies and procedures.
- Development of written procedures for every test system performed in the laboratory.
- Preparation of work schedules, bench assignments, time off requests and unforeseen absences to assure consistent optimal workflow.
- Responsible for the performance of in house laboratory tests which may include collection of specimens.
- Maintains positive specimen identification throughout the laboratory testing and reporting process.
- Demonstrates the ability to work in all technical areas of the laboratory. Must understand all of the equipment and occasionally trouble shoot the instrument performance.
- Able to open the lab in the morning and close down the lab in the evening.
- Prepares reagents, solutions, and stains.
- Recognizes abnormal lab values. Follow protocol for rechecking, accepting, and calling results to the physician or designated clinical person.
- Assists the Lab Manager in maintaining supplies and in ordering supplies.
- Maintains appropriate records (QC, specimen, instrument maintenance, etc.) as required..
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education (Including Licenses and Certifications): A bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology, a bachelor’s degree in a related field and completion of a Post-Bachelors Certificate Program in Medical Technology, or bachelors degree in a related field with the required experience is required. Medical Technologist Registered required.
Experience: Previous experience supervising a laboratory department or shift required.
