POSITION PURPOSE
Reporting to the Chief Geologist, the Geologist performs technical duties and provides guidance to other Geology Technicians to ensure delivery of quality geological information and technical expertise.
Responsible for executing geology tasks – planning, evaluation, and development, implement and support ore control, drill targeting, Infill/Exploration drilling coordination and QA/QC with strong safety and environmental focus.

Knowledge
70% of the Geologist’s time will be spent in the field while the remaining 30% will be spent in an office environment.

- Work with Geology, Sampling, Mine Engineering, Surveying, Mine Operations, Metallurgy and Corporate Technical Services

- Ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety guidelines and standard operating procedures
- Ensure that all employees and contractors are certified to execute the tasks/jobs they are assigned
- Provide oversight of blast hole sampling activities
- Provide geologic controls to the operation
- Provide geologic support for ore control and exploration drilling
- Contribute to any work to support resource model updates
- Coordinate on-site duties for infill and exploration drilling programs
- Maintain QA/QC programs for all geological systems and deliverables (ore control, databases, etc.)
- Manage and maintain acQuire and other SQL databases for the geology group
- Contribute to the geometallurgical strategy for Pinto Valley in partnership with the Metallurgy Department
- Work with the mill to establish relationship between rock types, mineralogy, grade and mill recovery and to develop new opportunities for metal recovery
- Conduct and maintain pit wall mapping program
- Provide input into annual budgeting process and help manage costs for geology group
- Perform monthly reconciliations among long term resource models, ore control models, and truck dispatch data in terms of tons/grades
- Responsible for but not limited to all tasks/duties assigned or required
Knowledge
- Understands drill-blast-load-haul open pit mining sequence
- Knowledge of theories and practices in geology related to open pit copper mining, milling, SXEW operations
- Knowledge of geology modeling tools and technologies used in open pit mining
- Knowledge of software for ore control operations (i.e. Vulcan, Acquire)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related discipline. Master’s degree a plus
- At least three (3) years of geology experience. Preferably porphyry copper experience
- Experience with mineral specific software packages (Vulcan, MineSight, Leapfrog etc.)
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Good project management skills
- Valid State Driver's License
- Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English
