The Human Resource Manager, with limited supervision, will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, benefits, protected leaves, and enforcing company policies and practices.
This role as HR Manager will be running a program for a group of 300 employees (over 3 subsidiaries) including individuals subject to DOT and FAA regulations. The role supervises an HR Assistant in a unique industry and respected family-run business, a subsidiary of a Fortune 300 utility infrastructure and services company. Core functions of this role include multi-state and union payrolls, hiring processes, facilitating orientations, training, and benefits administration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
- Provides support and guidance to the HR assistant, upper management, and other staff when complex, and sensitive issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
- Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
- Assists in payroll processes and ensures accurate processing of timecards; responds to payroll inquiries.
- Administers pre-employment tasks and orientations for all new hires. Trains employees on timekeeping procedures.
- Acts as Drug Testing Officer for the company, manages the random drug testing pool and follow-up programs.
- Crafts job descriptions and job offers; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organization attracts and retains top talent.
- Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
