Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.


Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund seeks a dynamic and effective TBD of Research and Insights. This job reports to the National Director of Research and Insights in the Brand and Culture team of PPFA. The Research and Insights Department works to develop new research and insights to inform messaging, organizational and brand strategy, opportunities for societal shifts, and cultural engagement to advance increased access to sexual and reproductive health care.


Purpose: 

⦁ Own qualitative and quantitative research projects focused on advocacy related issues and message development to advance Planned Parenthood’s policy agenda and increase access to abortion and sexual and reproductive health care. 


⦁ Project manage research efforts ensuring that timelines and workflows are executed and project goals are met.


⦁ Lead resource development including creating clear and concise summaries of research and facilitating sharing findings with the national office, affiliates, and partners to inform  reproductive right and abortion advocacy strategy and narrative development.


⦁ Develop advocacy, and organizational strategies including guiding audience identification and drafting strategy briefs to advance access to sexual and reproductive health care.


⦁ Monitor and track public and partner polling regularly and synthesize findings regularly including the development of internal and external memos and recommendations.


⦁ Synthesize external and internal research to identify key trends and disseminate across the national office and affiliates to inform organizational strategy and messaging.


⦁ Represent the Research and Insights team and lead collaboration on behalf of the Research and Insights team at key national office meetings and tables related to advocacy.


Delivery: 

⦁ Develop realistic project concepts, plans, teams, and timelines and facilitate alignment across leadership.


⦁ Manage vendors and ensure all projects meet the established goals and are completed on budget and on time.

 

⦁ Lead the development of RFPs, research and evaluation of new diverse vendors, and facilitate the contract process.


⦁ Assist in the development, execution and budget planning for the annual research plan. 


⦁ Manage cross divisional and affiliate integrated project teams to advance projects timely. 


⦁ Develop and conduct presentations to brief national office staff, affiliates, and partners on research findings and recommendations and work with teams to integrate findings into their work to increase data-driven strategies.


Engagement: 

⦁ Build consensus across many teams while maintaining diplomacy and using intuition.


⦁ Manage and lead communication with staff in other departments/divisions, as well as outside vendors and affiliates, to develop and produce research to support others' work.


⦁ Manage the collaborative cross-divisional research team group with PCA and Development to align on research planning, learnings, and themes.


⦁ Employ a collaborative work style; able to facilitate amongst diverse communities and individuals; can inspire top performance in others; willingness to pitch in/ jump in.


⦁ Ensure that deliverables are met and systems meet other staff’s needs. Interacts with outside vendors and organizational spokespeople on logistics.


⦁ Lead the efforts to identify, explore, and evaluate new and innovative research tools and methodologies to ensure we are conducting cutting edge research and being a leader within PPFA.


⦁ Be the internal expert on research related to abortion and SRH issues to support teams across the organization by being the main point of contact for research questions, providing research to teams to respond to their requests, and help them navigate existing research to best inform their work.

 

⦁ Lead in the development and review of research based messaging, talking points, message maps, and other messaging tools.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): 

⦁ Bachelor's Degree, plus with related college courses or professional training in a related field preferred.


⦁ 5-7 years of work experience in a related field such as experience in advocacy and communications research.


⦁ Must have research experience or advocacy communications experience with ability to write messaging.


⦁ Experience with one or more project management tools or methodologies.


⦁ Must be able to think creatively about communicating insights and be able to clearly consolidate information.


⦁ Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and plan projects on very tight deadlines.


⦁ Experience managing a project team that includes external vendors and across divisions. 


⦁ Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to clearly articulate reproductive health issues and advocacy issues.


⦁ Knowledge of diverse groups, working with a multicultural workforce, and sensitivity and appreciation to cultural differences is required.


⦁ Willingness to learn, expand and grow as a professional.

$110,000 - $120,000 a year
