What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pool Lifeguard position at Plunge San Diego?
Education and Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years of age with valid USA work authorization and possess a valid Lifeguard certification from American Red Cross or equivalent. Lifeguard training must include First Aid, CPR/AED, and lifeguarding skills at a minimum depth of six feet. Previous lifeguarding experience is preferred, but not required. Candidates without a current certification can be trained at the Plunge and also be re-certified.
Ability to: follow verbal and written instructions, write clear and concise, perform basic math skills, follow safety practices, work independently and as a part of a team, handle challenging guests, and communicate effectively with guests.
Summary/Objective: Lifeguards ensure the safety of all guests who visit the Plunge San Diego. Lifeguards are expected to provide exceptional guest service and demonstrate professional demeanor at all times. This position requires working a variable schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Job Duties/Essential Functions:
- Oversee the safety of all guests through proper enforcement of rules and safety regulations.
- Anticipate, recognize and respond to emergencies being rescue ready every shift.
- Provide surveillance of swimmers and guests during operational hours and special events.
- Possess a general knowledge of aquatic fitness equipment and be able to assist guests.
- Alert and assist management staff with unsafe or unsanitary conditions.
- Provide exceptional guest service and interact appropriately with all guests.
- Ensure and assist with cleanliness of all areas.
- Attend required in-service training sessions and maintain test ready skills at all times.
- Check in guests to the facility and ensure all guests have paid admission.
- Exhibit proper cash handling skills and high integrity.
- Maintain and protect employee, company and guest confidentiality.
- Report to and from work at assigned time.
- Must be honest and reliable and willing to assist co-workers.
- Able to properly understand the Point of Sale and Software systems.
- Abide by all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Department Manual.
- Assist with other reasonable duties as requested by Management or colleagues.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to stand/walk up to eight hours at a time
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to move equipment or chemicals which would include pushing, pulling, stooping and shoving, and bending.
- Able to work outdoors may be exposed to a variety of weather conditions such as rain, cold temperatures, direct sunlight, high heat, and humidity.
- Able to work in a noisy environment.
- Able to meet pre-requisites for lifeguarding: swim 100 or 300 yards, tread water for two minutes without the use of hands, retrieve a ten-pound brick from six feet of water, able to exit the pool unassisted.
- Able to visually see all areas of the pool and be able to properly communicate with and hear a whistle.
- Able to climb stairs.
