JOB SUMMARY
The Fabricator I is responsible for performing machine shop work in the fabrication, maintenance, cleaning and repair of equipment associated with bioprocessing facility processes. Team members in this position will perform a variety of tasks which may include welding, brazing and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment as well as preventative maintenance tasks. The Fabricator I receives and responds to instructions, prints and work orders for the job(s) that require a high degree of accuracy and precision. Team member must be able to meet call-in requirements as needed.
DURING A TYPICAL DAY (IF THERE IS ONE)...
- Remove, install, rebuild, weld, torch, lubricate and clean all equipment associated with bioprocessing facility processes.
- Fabricate and repair equipment and piping systems using methods such as cutting, burning, welding, gluing, clamping, joining and other acceptable techniques.
- Identify worn or defective surfaces and repair as necessary.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
- Coordinate and oversee fabrication work done by outside services to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Communicate any issues or unsafe conditions on a daily basis.
- Coordinate work functions with fellow team members and other departments within POET.
- Understand the basic operation of the bioprocessing facility process to better understand how the equipment and controls operate and are utilized.
- Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
- Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.
- Other duties as assigned.
STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
- High school diploma or equivalent required; secondary education preferred.
- Fabricator experience required and welding certification preferred.
- Ability to maintain precision is required working with various types of metals such as, but not limited to stainless and mild steels and copper alloys.
- The following competencies are preferred:
- Experience with fabrication, welding and cutting techniques
- Experience with repair of equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, agitator assemblies and valves
- Repair of material handling systems such as conveyors
- Preventative maintenance practices
- Fabrication and repair of metal/plastic piping systems
- Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability and willingness to learn new software applications.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.

This position is exposed to work in multiple environments, including plant, laboratory, as well as an office environment. The team member may be exposed to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, internal and external temperature/weather conditions, and chemicals.
- Specific physical requirements may include:
- Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.
- Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
- Opening valves.
- Occasionally bending, twisting and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.
- Data entry while seated for greater than one (1) hour.
- Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.
- Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.
- Working at heights, in confined spaces and at temperatures from -20 to 100 degrees.
- Standing for extended periods of time.
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Using hand and power tools.
