Service encompasses all aspects of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indian’s governmental operations. Every employee shares the responsibility to provide exemplary service, dignity, and respect to all Tribal Citizens, the Tribal Council, and staff members. Position Summary: Maintain the facilities, grounds and roadways of all Tribal properties and Tribal leased properties.
Essential Functions:
- Perform electrical maintenance as it relates the facilities, equipment, and vehicles.
- Perform plumbing maintenance, such as repair leaking pipes, sinks, toilets etc.
- Perform building and wood working maintenance, such as minor facilities repairs, interior and exterior painting, staining etc.
- Perform metal working tasks as assigned.
- Light mechanical maintenance of equipment to include lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, leaf blowers, tractors, tractor related equipment, vehicles, and other equipment.
- Maintain and repair tools, equipment, and structures such as buildings, fences, and benches, and other items as needed.
- Perform snow plowing and removal, shoveling, and salting of parking lots, walks, and driveways and spread salt in those areas.
- Mow or edge lawns and care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
- Plant shrubs and trees, water grounds, fertilize and rake properties.
- Tree Fell, Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges and remove as appropriate.
- Gather and remove litter and check and empty cigarette poles.
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters, burial sites, or other grounds features.
- Assist in the maintenance of all roads on Tribal properties and Tribal leased properties as directed. This includes gravel, asphalt, concrete work, bricks, and signage.
- On-call rotation for emergency situations and snow removal.
- Work collaboratively with Department teams (both in the Facilities Department and other Departments) to ensure services are provided and the highest levels of service are maintained and provide event set up as needed.
- Occasional use of heavy equipment and trailers, i.e. loaders, excavator, bobcats, tool cats, and 12 plus foot trailers.
- Follow OSHA Safety standards and follow Personal Protective Equipment, PPE.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Perform electrical maintenance as it relates the facilities, equipment and vehicles.
- Perform plumbing maintenance, such as repair leaking pipes, sinks, toilets etc.
- Perform building and wood working maintenance, such as minor facilities repairs, interior and exterior painting, staining etc.
- Perform metal working tasks as assigned.
- Perform other related functions as assigned.
Equipment:
- Various Heavy and Maintenance machines used, such as skid steers, front end loaders, high-lifts, stump grinders, mowers, tractors, snowplows and blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, edgers, shears, pruners, hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders, and more.
Position Requirements:
Level 1 (PB-4)
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Self-motivated able to perform with minimal supervision required.
- Experience in maintaining a wide variety of light gasoline and diesel equipment preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in electrical/plumbing/building and/or grounds maintenance required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet insurance requirements to utilize Pokagon Band vehicles.
Level 2 (PB-5)
- All prior requirements
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in electrical/plumbing/building and/or grounds maintenance required.
Indian Preference:
- Pokagon Band Preference Code applies.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently required to use hands and fingers to operate equipment.
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and crawl.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds or more.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor environment; frequently exposed to outside weather conditions during all four seasons.
- Occasional strenuous work required.
- Local travel is necessary, so the ability to travel as needed is required.
