What are the responsibilities and job description for the COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR position at Polk County?
Under direct supervision of the Community Outreach Supervisor, prepares and disseminates information on Conservation sponsored services and activities to develop and maintain public
awareness; coordinates social media communications regarding programs,
services, and/or announcements.
- Gathers information to compose and disseminate marketing and communications content.
- Coordinates, promotes, and executes community outreach programming and special events.
- Provides assistance to departmental personnel in preparation and dissemination of conservation promotional materials for purposes of increased participation and attendance at public facilities and conservation-sponsored activities.
- Compiles and edits content by interviewing and receiving rough drafts from departmental personnel for websites, newsletters, news releases, blogs, articles, social media, annual reports, videos, etc.
- Measures and reports performance on digital marketing campaigns, including email newsletters and website and social media metrics.
- Organizes and maintains video and photography library; takes photographs in the field.
- Observes communication operations and procedures and provides recommendations for operational enhancement and/or modifications.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of the principals and practices of public relations, communication, and journalism.
- Knowledge of social media platforms, marketing strategies, and best practices and trends.
- Knowledge of video cameras, non-linear video editing, and sound recording and production.
- Knowledge of Conservation’s departmental policies, practices, and standards.
- Skill in designing and coordinating communications for Conservation’s public relations activities, campaigns, and events.
- Ability to write and prepare news releases, letters, and reports with correct grammar, spelling, tense, and punctuation.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Ability to logically analyze problems and develop efficient and effective solutions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with other divisions, the general public, and news media.
- Ability to react quickly and effectively to social media and media questions.
- Ability to operate a computer, appropriate software applications, video cameras, and recording equipment.
- Associate’s degree in communications, marketing, or closely related field, and
- One to two years of experience in public relations, journalism, or graphic design, or
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that will have provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements:
- A criminal background check is required.
- A drug screen is required prior to final offer of employment.
- A valid State of Iowa driver’s license is required.
Salary : $44,194 - $57,797
