JOB PURPOSE: The Dining Cashier operates the cash register at assigned dining halls to receive payments of cash, meal plan cards and tickets, Claremont Cash, and Board Plus according to the College’s money handling and Point of Sale cashiering system procedures. This position ensures that correct change and receipts are issued to customers. The Dining Cashier is responsible for knowing the appropriate rates for each meal period, recording customer counts, monitoring sign in sheets, handling and safeguarding funds received, and verifying that cash drawer count is correct and has been deposited into safe. This position is certified as a California Food Handler to restock and cut fruits and desserts before, during and after each meal period as needed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Dining Room Manager and secondarily to the Dining Lead, the Dining Cashier performs the following essential duties and responsibilities: Operate the cash register at assigned dining halls to receive payments of cash, meal plan cards and tickets, Claremont Cash, and Board Plus according to the College’s money handling and Point of Sale cashiering system procedures. Provide correct change and receipts to customers. Stay abreast of appropriate rates to charge customers for each meal period. Total and summarize funds received after each meal period with the Dining Room Manager or Dining Lead to ensure the appropriate handling and safeguarding of money. Sign verification with Dining Room Manager or Dining Lead to verify that money count of the cash drawer is correct and has been deposited into safe. Record customer counts and monitor sign in sheets for record keeping. Provide excellent and professional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and external customers. Respond promptly to customer needs and questions and request assistance when necessary. Must be California Food Handler certified, and successfully recertify every 3 years. Prepare coffee and restock desserts before, during, and after each meal period as needed. Restock and clean condiments, refill napkin dispensers and salt and pepper shakers. Make menu and food allergen signs when needed. Follow and comply with all applicable health and sanitation procedures and adhere to safe work practices. Participate in training sessions provided by the College. Perform special projects/tasks/duties and provide assistance as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to High School Diploma or GED that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability. Licenses/Certificates: Must take and successfully pass the California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire and successfully recertify every 3 years. A valid driver’s license is essential to drive College-owned vehicles. Must take and successfully pass a functional capacity test after job offer and prior to hire. Experience: Experience with cashiering assignments at an academic institution is preferred. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: This position must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job or must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other knowledge, skills and abilities not listed below. Deploy professional skills in cashiering and customer service, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College’s strategic interests. Must operate cash registers and Point of Sale cashiering systems. Must follow money handling procedures and count out money accurately. Operate computers proficiently with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook) and associated professional software (such as Point of Sale cashiering systems). Handle all activities with patience, discretion, good judgment, and tact while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Prioritize and perform multiple projects/tasks, meet deadlines/timelines, respond to others in a timely manner, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College with a high standard of integrity and ethics, in support of the College’s strategic vision and the division’s/department’s annual goals. Use strong organizational, time management, basic math and money handling skills to complete work with accuracy and a keen attention to detail. Must safely lift and move supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and walk and stand for long periods of time. Must report to work on time and in uniform at the start of each shift. REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this part time position are 20 hours per week, 5 days per week, on a variable schedule. Overtime, holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule. HOURLY RATE: The hourly rate for this role is between $21.10 and $21.43 with a competitive benefits package.
