Position Summary
Perform skilled electrical work in the maintenance of facilities and on HVAC.
Key Responsibilities/Duties
- Diagnose problems or recurring malfunctions; choose the course of action and repair or direct repairs to HVAC systems and their components
- Provide inventory control for stock level of repair parts
- Maintain routine records related to work performed and materials used; solder copper tubing, fittings, and connectors
- Diagnose electrical or mechanical problems by the use of appropriate equipment and tools such as voltmeters, gauges, vacuum pump, gas and propane torch, solder iron, and other tools common to the trade
- Make modifications to existing or add on facilities by installing electrical service, outlets, drain pans, duct work, transitions, registers, thermostat controls, and other items pertaining to HVAC systems
- Periodically check all window units, water coolers, and icemakers for inventory control and functional status
- Ensure safety and environmental procedures are exercised during the performance of daily activities
- Work required scheduled overtime hours and be available for unscheduled overtime when operating requirements or other business needs of Port Houston cannot be fulfilled during regular working hours
- Work a temporary, alternative schedule or shift as requested by supervisor
- Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
- Perform other duties as required
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required
- 4 years HVAC experience required
- Certificates from vocational trade schools desirable
- Knowledge of relevant electrical codes: National Electrical code HVAC and Boiler codes
- Knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems
- Knowledge of basic electronic troubleshooting and repairs
- Knowledge of environmental and security controls
- Judgment and quick thinking skills
- Ability to give written and oral directions
- Ability to communicate with others
- Ability to climb and be comfortable at heights
- Ability to remove, replace or repair any component of the Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning System
- Knowledge of safety precautions necessary to deal with occupational hazards.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to operate forklift, if needed
- Ability to operate M5 Maintenance Management computer system as required
- A current, valid Texas driver's license is required
- A Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) must be obtained within 30 days of appointment, and be maintained for the duration of employment
