ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR
Supervision and Direction:
The Activities Director is responsible for development and implementation of the activity program, as well as supervision and training of Activities Department and volunteer staff. The Activities Director reports to the Administrator or Assistant Administrator, or in the absence of the Administrator or Assistant Administrator, the Director of Operations/Regional Director.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Uses discretion and judgment to develop, promote, and implement an activity program to meet the physical, social, spiritual, psychological and emotional needs of the resident in the facility. The program must provide a wide variety of opportunities for achievement of self-care and independence, social integration and adjustment, while maintaining the residents’ dignity and fostering the residents’ self-esteem. This must include activities to stimulate each resident to meet their needs, interests, and abilities and must include outdoor activities, intergenerational activities, field trips in the local community, entertainment/activities by community groups, monthly theme events, gender specific activities, spiritual activities, and one-to-one activities for room-bound residents.

2. Conduct and ensure activity programs are conducted in a manner that encourages resident participation, including having overall responsibility for ensuring that residents are reminded of upcoming programs and supervising to ensure that residents are transported to/from activities. The Director supervises to ensure that activities must:
a. Be set up and ready to begin prior to arrival of participants. Includes furniture arrangement, props, music, etc.
b. Begin and end on time and with appropriate greetings.
c. Be presented as inviting, interesting and enjoyable.
d. Be broken down into simple, achievable steps that are clearly understood by
participants.
e. Be easily adapted to meet individual needs and ability levels.
f. Foster appropriate levels of social interaction.
g. Promote self-esteem and self-worth.

3. Supervise, including hiring, orientation, training, evaluating, counseling, and firing and
disciplining Activity department staff. Provide direction, including staff responsible for transportation of residents to and from activities.
4. Train CNA’s/PCA’s performing dementia-specific programming in the Alzheimer’s unit. Oversee CNA’s/PCA’s implementation of dementia-specific programming, ensuring supplies and equipment are available and appropriate, and programming is carried out according to the time frames and manner established by the company. Make recommendations concerning hiring, firing, evaluating, and disciplining special care unit direct care staff.
5. Develop, train, supervise and implement the volunteer program to ensure volunteers are oriented, properly utilized, and appropriately recognized.
6. Develop, coordinate, and implement special marketing events in cooperation with the marketing staff as assigned.
7. Rotates Manager on Duty responsibilities on weekends and holidays with Department Supervisors as assigned.
8. Conduct resident assessments upon admission and as required for residents of the Nursing Center, Special Care Center, and Assisted Living Center.
9. Evaluate in coordination with the care conference team to assure continuity of care for Nursing Center, Special Care Center, and Assisted Living Center residents. Document in the care plan, MDS, and chart as required by regulatory agencies and the facility.

10. Responsible for ensuring attendance records are maintained, including the degree of participation for each and refusals for nursing center and special care unit residents.
11. Survey residents’ interests and solicit resident input in development of the activities program. Continually monitor resident satisfaction and participation to assure resident needs and expectations are met.
12. Prepare and evaluate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports according to time frames established as required by the facility and regulatory agencies.
13. Produce, develop, and ensure through adequate supervision that monthly activity calendars and daily activity boards are kept current. Design bulletin boards each month with careful attention to coordinate with the overall decorating of the area. Plan and supervise holiday decorating.
14. Manage, develop, and supervise the production and distribution of the monthly in-house newsletter. Provide input as requested for the marketing newsletter.
15. Manage and ensure all inventory is properly maintained concerning all activity and special care unit equipment and supplies. Assures equipment is in good working order.
16. Coordinate and develop spiritual activities, in conjunction with the Pastoral Counselor (if applicable).
17. Possess Commercial Driver’s License and develop, implement, and supervise the facility’s transportation schedule. Monitor safe and proper operation of facility vehicle following company and regulatory requirements regarding vehicle operation and supervision of residents while on outings.
18. Supervise to ensure cleanliness and order of the office, activity, activity storage, and craft areas. Ensure the use of appropriate sanitary procedures for daily care of equipment.
19. Exercise fiscal control of budget and petty cash and obtain proper authorization of expenditures.
20. Participate in and attend all required meetings, inservices, and department supervisor meetings.
21. Monitor compliance with appropriate licensing agency regulations. Observes and protects residents’ rights including rights to confidentiality, privacy, and dignity.
22. Practice safety procedures and comply with established reporting of accidents and injuries.
23. Perform any other related duties that may be assigned or as may be needed to achieve the responsibilities of this position.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $57,000.00 per year
