What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Manager position at PPG Industries?
As the Quality Control Manager, you will oversee the Lafayette coatings facility and be responsible for ensuring that products manufactured and shipped meet our customers’ specifications for performance and quality. You will report to the Plant Manager.
After a comprehensive review of our operations, we have decided to maintain our local facility in Lafayette, Indiana to meet our North American automotive coatings demand. This decision reflects our commitment to enhancing operations, expanding product offerings, and serving our customers better.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly supervise the facility Quality Control Specialists, Color Match Associates, and Applications Associates.
- Provides oversight and management of all QC Lab related functions, including both to other members of the management team, customers, and suppliers as required.
- Maintains close working relationships with all levels of the organization, projecting an image of collaboration and support to foster a interactive team environment.
- Promotes awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization.
- Promotes and uses the elements of IATF16949 by being familiar with its philosophy and disciplines. Ensure compliance with the site Quality Management System, supporting both internal and external audits, calibration of lab equipment, and other requirements.
- Ensures compliance to company and regulatory Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements. Engage team members to identify and reduce risk in the work area.
- Maintains QC records and files, both paper and digital. Document QC testing and creates/signs customer required Certificates of Analysis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other physical science degree OR 5 years equivalant experience.
- Five years of experience in a lab/quality control environment for a production facility.
- People management experience with direct reports.
- Experience operating analytical lab test equipment and performing testing.· Experience with liquid coatings chemistry a plus.
