As an Rhode Island Energy Safety you will partner with management to support the RIE safety management plan across the business.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the facilitating the development and execution of RI’s safety management plan, including ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, adopted industry standards, and safety policies.
- This position is expected to establish and execute all aspects of the role in a manner that promotes the continuing development of a constructive culture where each employee has a high level of accountability for their personal safety and the safety of all those employees.
- This position requires strong administrative and computer skills.
- This position is also responsible to review and understand the metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), goals, processes, and systems to monitor and evaluate the safety performance of RI employees and contractors, identify significant trends, and recommend and implement plans and programs to continuously improve safety performance.
- Assist with maintaining all company safety-related policies, programs, processes, procedures, and records in a state of full compliance as required by federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, DOT, PUC) and adopted industry standards.
- Systematically evaluate internal safety performance, work methods and training programs and conduct benchmarking to determine industry best practices
- Identify, initiate, and facilitate large-scale change management of high impact safety initiatives
- Perform incident investigations, safety committee meetings, field observations, and other on-going safety operations activities.
- Assist and maintain effective incident case management and reporting
- Support management with the development of strategic safety plans, goals, and objectives
- Establish and maintain clear and effective processes for supporting and responding to emergencies, first responder support, conducting emergency investigations, issuing safety alerts.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering or related technical field and 5 years relevant work experience
- In lieu of degree 10 years of related safety work experience
- A minimum of 3 years in the utility or utility construction industry Preferred.
- Successful completion of a board safety certification such as Certified Health & Safety
- Technician (CHST), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Preferred.
- Valid driver license required
