What are the responsibilities and job description for the Therapist, Float position at PrairieCare?
The Float Therapist is responsible for assessing, planning, and providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy as assigned. The float therapist collaborates within a multi-disciplinary setting with other PrairieCare staff to provide comprehensive treatment to the patients and families they serve.

Responsibilities:
- Provide group therapy, family therapy, and individual therapy for assigned patients
- May work with children, adolescents, and adults with mental illness and/or a combination of both, as assigned
- Develop and assign treatment goals and interventions
- Coordinate care with providers outside of the treatment team upon admission and discharge, as relevant and appropriate
- Available to provide collaborative coverage for other therapists across treatment teams, settings, and levels of care throughout the organization when the need arises
- Contribute to the interdisciplinary team the perspective of their unique training and support the clinical lens in supporting staff from other disciplines
- Participate in case conferences and treatment team rounds
- Attend required training, seminars, group supervision, and regular staff meetings as appropriate
- Maintain clinical records in compliance with PrairieCare policies and regulatory standards
- Support quality assurance and peer review activities as assigned
- Maintain professional and collaborative relationships with colleagues in the program and broader PrairieCare
- Maintain confidentiality of client medical records according to policy and HIPAA rules
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely billing records per policy and program requirements
- Ensure compliance with program policies, external regulatory standards, and payer requirements
- Oriented towards, educated in, and embracing interculturally responsive functioning from lenses of gender, race, age, and other cultural identifications and differences
- Participate in holds/restrains processes as required for master's level family therapy, counseling, or social work junior level therapists or interns, based upon qualifications
Requirements:
- Master's Degree required
- Current licensure in the state of Minnesota required (LICSW, LMFT, LPCC, or LP)
- Clinical mental health experience with a variety of ages and clinical presentations is preferred
- Experience in an intensive psychiatric healthcare setting preferred
- Stated desire to work with children, adolescents, adults (as applicable to the role), and families
- Ability to maintain required malpractice insurance
- Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate in written and verbal form
- Ability to smoothly and rapidly shift between dissimilar tasks
- Ability to react quickly and calmly as part of a team to handle volatile and potential emergency situations
- Ability to make effective decisions while in stressful situations and circumstances
- After training, the ability to manage disruptive and explosive patients
- Float therapists may work across sites (Edina, Chaska, Maple Grove, Maplewood, Woodbury, Brooklyn Park Hospital, MOB)
