Job Summary:
As an Engineering Specialist you will report directly to the Director of Operations/Project Manager. The job requires getting things done quickly and managing a variety of activities within a well-defined job scope. Because of the fast pace of the work, it is important that job related knowledge and responsibilities be learned and mastered quickly and thoroughly.

Essential Functions:
The Engineering Specialist will be responsible for the small cell pole design and the intake of field information, performing calculations and analyzing structural loads on new and existing utility poles and gather documentation, perform GO-95 clearance research, and develop digital 3D models using O-Calc software of the poles.
- Gather and input data provided by Field Engineers into Pole Load Programs (O-Calc software)
- Review and verify field data pictures
- Create O-Calc reports and ensure utility pole is in compliance with GO95
- Interface with Field Engineers, Project Managers, JPA Department and outside utilities to resolve conflicts regarding analysis results
- Pull utility research and perform check clearances
- Verify status of pole transfers with appropriate database or system, per local requirements
- Investigate irregularities between OSP records and placed facilities and assist in their reconciliation
- Create 3D generated models of pole runs and landscape layout
- Perform regular analysis of data to determine various items, such as span length, pole loading, intrusive testing, anchoring, and attachment heights
- Review utility records to verify field data
- Compile collection of discrepancies for verification of conductor sizes
- Conduct failed pole remediation, which may include Guying changes, Pole strength applications and Pole replacement
- Establish engineering/fiber guidelines and processes to be managed and followed throughout the OSP Engineering/Fiber team, consisting of OSP managers, residents/inspectors, engineers, and technicians
- Builds and enhances a strong team that provides high-quality engineered products to execute and implement OSP projects to support clients in the telecommunications/broadband service provider industries
- Ensures accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of the engineered products, including plans & specifications, construction contracts, construction management, scheduling, project status reporting, and budgets
- Perform related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested
- Coordinates and manages timelines and milestones
- Coordinates with other engineers/designers, drafters and engineering personnel in a team environment
- Modify and/or refine details during project to improve design
- Responsibilities will also include project planning and client contact and ensures accurate project status reporting
Experience and Qualifications:
- Requires a three (3) or more years of experience in related field (i.e., Utility Engineering/Fiber, Construction, Fiber, Telecommunications)
- Minimum of one (1) year of OSP engineering and/or fielding of pole analysis data experience
- Familiarity with telecommunications OSP design and engineering practices preferred
- Experience with O-Calc software and GO-95 Compliance is a must
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Sense of urgency to complete tasks
