What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laundry Worker position at Preferred Linen?
Position Summary
- Utilizes protective gear in all appropriate functions
- Laundry Workers perform a variety of tasks collecting and sorting soiled linen, loading and unloading machines, and folding clean linen.
- Performs laundry activities within well established guidelines to ensure that quality standards, safety guidelines and customer service expectations are met.
- The overwhelming majority of the laundry worker’s job is performed while standing, walking and bending.
- The laundry worker is responsible for satisfactory and timely completion of assigned linen, etc. according to schedule.
- Work involves pulling and pushing, carrying weight up to 50 pounds, twisting, bending and reaching from floor to waist height and from waist to chest level.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Experience preferred, but on-site training is provided.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to recognize hazards and follow appropriate protective equipment measures
- Personal cleanliness.
- Pleasant, tactful, courteous.
- Must be able to be at work on time.
- Good analytical skills
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Must be flexible to move from job to job as needed
- Must be able to lift/carry a maximum of 30 pounds, push/pull a maximum of 60 pounds, stand, sit, bend and walk for extended periods of time.
Primary Responsibilities
Hand Folding:
- The primary purpose of a hand folder is to take items as they come out of the Dryer or Presser and hand fold, stack and place on the appropriate cart or belt for transporting to the next stage of the process.
- The hand folder will make many quality decisions, such as identifying if there is a hole or tear in the item, whether it is stained and needs to be rewashed.
- Pull cart over to work area, adjusting the cart so that linen is at a comfortable waist level.
- Fold items and place on the countertop.
- Adhere to all quality standards,
- Adhere to all safety standards
Other Functions and Responsibilities:
- Employees are required to learn all equipment and rotate as needed. Typical learning curve for each position is no longer than 2-5 working days. Standards must be met for each position () within two weeks of hire, and sustained during employment.
- Any other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.
- The ability and willingness to move between all jobs via rotation when needed.
