JOB TITLE: ER Patient Access Representative

DEPARTMENT: Revenue Cycle

TITLE OF SUPERVISOR: Revenue Cycle Supervisor/Director

JOB SUMMARY:

The ER Patient Access Representative is responsible for registration of emergency room patients and handling of PBX phone calls

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or its equivalent

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

6 months experience in hospital patient registration, physician office patient registration, or hospital billing preferred

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Must exhibit proficiency in use of patient registration software

Must exhibit proficiency in checking patients’ insurance eligibility

Must exhibit proficiency in basic math skills

Must possess good telephone and patient-facing communication skills

Must be willing to work collegially with other registration and Revenue Cycle staff

Must be able to handle emergency situations

JOB DUTIES:

The ER Patient Access Representative:

• Registers patients in the hospital electronic medical record software (EMR), including verification of patient demographic information

• Checks insurance cards and verifies patient insurance eligibility/coverage using automated tools, including the hospital EMR eligibility software, LA Medicaid software, Novatisphere, I-link Blue, and other software as assigned

• Updates the EMR with all information, prior to patient discharge from the ER

• Explains forms to patients and obtains signatures as required by hospital policy or state/federal regulations. Forms include, but are not limited to, the following: Consent to Treatment, Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire, Important Message from Medicare (IMM), and Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice (MOON)

• Performs other Patient Access or Revenue Cycle functions as assigned

• Operates the telephone service for facility

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality

• Maintains professional telephone etiquette at all times

• Forwards all telephone calls to the proper persons/departments

• Must be able to handle emergency situations efficiently

• Performs job functions using age-specific competencies

• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, PRN

Pay: From $13.50 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
