What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Prime Controls?
Summary:
Analyzes drawings, specifications, RFPs, proposals, and other documentation to prepare material, equipment, other direct costs, and labor quotations for projects and services.
Location:
Flexible [Austin - TX, Houston - TX, and/or Phoenix - AZ].
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Reviews customer information to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists.
- Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.
- Uses Estimating tools to develop quotes. Updates pricing database from quotes received on each bid to maintain current pricing.
- Works with Senior Estimator to quote labor estimates for products, projects, and services.
- Consults with clients, vendors, and internal resources to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Participates in pre-submittal meetings to review material costs and substantiate labor estimates.
- Organizes and manages a process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized.
- Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies.
- Provides cost estimates and proposals for change orders, typically needed within one day.
- Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
- Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
