What are the responsibilities and job description for the Brand and Media Strategist position at Principal Financial Group?
As a Brand & Media Strategist at Principal, you will be responsible for activating the global brand strategy and vision from the center of the organization. You will be the steward of the Principal brand in the Global Brand and Experience team, helping translate the strategy into plans and execution in a highly matrixed organization. Key elements of the job include understanding own and competitive brand positioning, activating on customer insights and customer journeys, bring to life digital and social media planning and execution, be part of the annual media planning process, among others, in order to help advance our brand promise inside and outside the US. Additional responsibilities include supporting strategic planning, forecasting, adverting budget management, and project management.
You will partner with a group of talented people inside Global Brand and Experience (Insights, Customer Experience, Brand and Media, Sponsorships, Creative and Content Studio, PR & Communications), and with our four Business Units (Retirement, Insurance, Global Investors, International) to ensure we all build our brand in a consistent, differentiated and distinct way.

- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of and passion for building brands
- Lead planning, development, production, measurement, execution, and optimization of key brand projects.
- Understand and apply global brand mindset and strategic thinking to shape short and long-term plans to contribute to enterprise goals.
- Support execution of annual brand plan
- Be the voice across different marketing functions providing the lens of the brand to ensure strategy alignment with overall initiatives
- Collaborate with content, creative and marketing resources, in the organization (Media, Digital and social media, Operating Business Units, in-country Marketing Teams, Advertising Agency, Content Studio, PR, HR) helping develop brand messaging to reinforce brand equity
- Partner with the Media team to work on media plan recommendations by campaign.
- Soundly judge, in collaboration with SMEs, media proposals/plans to determine the most effective channels and budget levels to deliver on objectives.
- Partner with agency or internal department to develop multi-platform creative assets, manage legal review process, prep for production, execute, and produce final materials on time.
- Define metrics for campaigns based on established KPIs, as well as measuring and reporting on the effectiveness.
- Work with agency to provide thorough analysis and communicate results to appropriate stakeholders.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field.
- 5 years’ experience in brand management or marketing with progressive responsibility.
- B2B experience a plus.
- Experience working with creative/media agencies.
- Knowledge of aspects of integrated marketing campaigns (traditional as well as social, digital, mobile, and others).
- Proficient, strategic, and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to turn insights into actions and recommendations.
- Strong written, verbal, execution, presentation and communication skills.
- Must be adaptable, flexible, self-driven, solutions-oriented, and able to handle changing priorities.
- Ability to implement and adhere to and meet deadlines and manage multiple projects at the same time.
- A team player with strong interpersonal skills that will engage partners, agency decision makers, team members and internal counterparts.
