Duties: Under the supervision of the Systems Advocate/Advocacy Coordinator
- Provide crisis intervention and support services (30%)
- Assist with recruitment, coordination and supervision of advocates (50%)
- Collaboration with campus partners (15%)
- Perform other related duties as required (5%)
Essential Functions:
Crisis intervention and support services
- Respond to victim service and crisis calls coming into the office
- Refer clients to appropriate community resources
- Consult with other professionals and staff on cases as necessary
- Advocate for clients with professionals and systems
- Assist with ensuring that the cultural needs of victims are being addressed in advocacy and in volunteer training
- Serve as a point of contact for on-call advocates and local hospitals during evening and weekend hours, on a rotating basis
- Support victim-survivors during their sexual assault exam in local emergency departments
- Assist in planning for support groups as needs arise
Recruitment, coordination, and supervision of volunteer advocates
- Manage recruitment and coordination of volunteer advocates
- Build relationships with community partners to expand our volunteer pool
- Create and manage volunteer calendar for hospital advocacy and helpline shifts
- Provide communication between PAVSA and after hours call center regarding scheduling and issues that arise
- Coordinate two 40 hour sexual assault advocacy trainings per year
- Assist with training volunteers on sexual assault advocacy and related topics
- Provide case consultation and debriefing to volunteer advocates
- Provide monthly supervision meetings to volunteers
- Collaborate with the University of Minnesota Duluth and the College of St Scholastica to provide volunteer opportunities and supervision of on-campus advocates
Collaboration with Campus Partners
- Communicate with stakeholders at local private and community colleges for providing training and education to staff and students
- Collaborate with college faculty and students and engage on-campus events to spread awareness of our services and recruit a diverse pool of volunteers
- Assist in developing materials volunteer training and recruitment
- Work with other PAVSA staff to ensure that community activities and education opportunities are staffed
Perform other related duties
- Participate in weekly staff and advocacy meetings
- Communicate and cooperate with other professionals and agencies in the community who may work with victims of sexual violence
- Serve as the representative of PAVSA at community and professional meetings as needed
- Attend annual fundraising events
Special Requirements
- Must be able to sit in a stationary position or stand for prolonged periods of time (75%)
- Position is based out of an office in downtown Duluth but must be able to travel around the Duluth area to meet with clients
- Must have access to reliable transportation
- Constantly operates a computer, Google Suite and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, fax and printer.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human services field; OR a minimum of 3 years of advocacy or direct service experience in a human service agency
- Prior completion of Minnesota approved sexual assault advocacy training strongly preferred
- Lived or professional experience with communities put at risk heavily preferred
- Comfortable with public speaking and/or experience with facilitating training sessions
- Good organization skills
- Effective communicator
- Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with persons from variety of backgrounds
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work flexible hours when needed
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Compensation
- $21.50-$23.00, based on experience
- Full time position, 40 hours/week
